Cityscapes Across the Bay - Treasure Island

This is the new date!

In Partnership with Calumet Photographic

Cityscapes Across the Bay: A Connected Landscape

Christy Carr, Photographer & Technical Expert

People travel from all over the world to visit San Francisco with the hopes of capturing that postcard perfect image of the city by the bay. Set in a visually stunning canvas of blue and white our San Francisco is home to one of the most beautiful cityscape-waterscapes scenes in the world. Calumet photographer Christy Carr will lead a workshop on how to capture the beauty of our home at sunset from the shores of Treasure Island. Join her in learning the technique for producing your vision of the bay with the city as your backdrop. This Meetup will focus on the use of tripods, long exposures and composition and is appropriate for film and digital photographers alike. We will plan to meet at sunset and shoot for up to 2 hours. Bring: Cameras, tripods, cable releases, spare batteries, wide angle and telephoto lenses, jackets and gloves. Calumet will provide a few longer lenses for both Canon and Nikon cameras, along with an extra tripod or two for those who don’t have one.

RSVP Required.

It's probably not fair to respond since I wasn't actually present but...

I was planning on attending but had a work issue that came up at the last minute. I had seen that there were 29 people (and counting) signed up to attend and I felt that there would be no way that the organizers would be able to provide that much dedicated time for each attendee so went to work instead.

That may have have been an unfair assumption on my part, but it seems from Mr. Mencher's comments below, that my suspicions might have come true after all.

I know many of these are "free" events put on with the cooperation (support) of local camera stores but I think that there should still be a cap on the number of attendees for those events in which "teaching" is going to be taking place. I wouldn't even mind a modest fee ($10-$20) to cover some of the instructor's time as a way to limit it to those truly interested.

I don't mean to offend the organizers or anyone else, just an idea I thought I'd share.

Interesting evening, got some very nice images of sf from different view. Most all of it was self taught or from speaking with other participants. "Expert" from Calumet was present but did no obvious teaching. Did not speak to group, instruct in use of tripod, etc. perhaps did some 1 on 1 teaching but otherwise was non existent to the rest of us. Glad I participated but would have liked some of the instruction mentioned on the program description.

    Hello fellow photographers!
Would any of you who plan to drive to this event from SF be willing to give me a ride? I can meet you anywhere near a MUNI stop. :-)
(I'll be coming from Noe Valley).
