What we're about

For people of all walks of life in their 50s and 60s to swap notes on lifestyles, meet up regularly and generally get together to be as good as you can be at this age. Maybe we can start some classes specifically for us, yoga, fitness, art, music, anything that we're willing to try. Maybe just meet in a cafe to begin with to plan, we've got an open canvas to work with!

Petanque and Pizza

Inverleith Park

An afternoon of Petanque followed by Pizza in the clubhouse! We'll play until about 5 or 6 or until the light fades, order pizza takeaway from Pizza Express and Deliveroo then sit in the clubhouse where the bar will be open. CASH ONLY!!! It'll be £5 for the petanque and if you choose to stay for pizza I'm sorry but the price from Pizza Express has gone up. The bundle of 4 pizzas and 2 sides is now £50.94 so £12.75 each. There might be offers on the day and there are offers for vegan pizzas. Sorry, please be patient on the day as ordering this will probably take some time. If you are willing to you can order something else for delivery, we can have a chat about all of that on the day but please be reminded, the price of pizza has gone up!

For the Petanque Colin will organise us into teams and we'll play a few games each in a sort of round robin format. Don't worry if you haven't played before we've got a real mixture of standards and 'only a few of us' take it seriously. It's good fun, all the equipment is supplied so all we need is you and some sensible clothing, it might get a bit wet and cold so wrap up and bring something waterproof.

For covid please let's all be sensible! Don't come along if you're not feeling well and I'll be taking your contact details.

'End of Season' Mystery Bike Ride

Start of the Roseburn Path (zigzags)

Following our series of Monday Meanders, this ride will be reserved for everyone who has taken part in our introductory rides over the summer as a way of celebrating how far we have progressed as a group.

The route and distance will depend on who signs up, somewhere around 15 miles or so, and will be a circular route from the ZigZags mostly all on cycle paths and quiet roads.

It will be at a leisurely pace and will include a snack stop on route, and most definitely an option of coffee and cake at the end of the ride.

If the idea of a mystery ride fills you with horror, please message me and I will let you know when I have details of the route.

Remember to bring a drink and a snack for sustenance along the way and PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO BRING A SPARE INNER TUBE AND YOUR CYCLE PUMP

Covid rules apply, please do not come if you have symptoms.
We will maintain social distancing throughout the ride

Nordic Walk : Botanic Gardens City Circular (5.5+ miles) Pole hire available £3

Scottish National Portrait Gallery

PLEASE NOTE
This walk is intended for anyone who has been trained in the Nordic Walking technique by a qualified instructor. (See below)

PLEASE DO NOT JOIN THIS WALK IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED IN THE NORDIC WALKING TECHNIQUE

Poles are available for hire if required (£3)

THE ROUTE
Focusing on our Nordic Walking technique, we will head off from Queen Street through the New Town to the Botanic Gardens East Gate, via King George V Park and along the Warriston Path.

After a more relaxed walk around the Botanic Gardens we will leave by the West Gate and continue into Inverleith Park.

After a 'snack stop' at Inverleith Pond, we will walk along the Water of Leith, through Stockbridge to the Dean Village.

At this point we may choose a detour through the grounds of the Modern Art Galleries in Belford Road, or decide upon the direct route of Bell's Brae to the Dean Bridge on Queensferry Road and through the New Town to our starting point in Queens Street.

IF YOU PREFER A SHORTER DISTANCE, please feel free to exit the walk at any point along the way...
eg. Stockbridge is 3 miles from the start.

Please message me if you require more information about the route or how to get there.

We will stop for snack on route, so please bring whatever sustenance you require.

If you would like to learn the Nordic Walking technique or to hire poles for this walk, please message Rosemary (via Meetup private message) with your contact number.

Covid rules apply, please do not come if you have symptoms.
We will maintain social distancing throughout the walk

PUNCTURE REPAIR WORKSHOP

71 Morrison Street

UPDATE...

PLEASE SEE MESSAGE BELOW IF YOU ARE ON THE WAITING LIST but are not setup to receive personal messages.

PUNCTURE WORKSHOP

Are you confident that you can change your inner tube if you get a puncture ?

Are you carrying the right inner tube, tools and pump to fix a puncture ?

Working on our own bikes this 'hands on' workshop will take us through the process of :

* REMOVING & REPLACING THE BACK and FRONT WHEELS (also useful for transporting your bike by car)

** GETTING THE TYRE OFF THE RIM (not always an easy task, as Jan and I discovered to our dismay !!!) 🙄

*** REMOVING & REPLACING THE INNER TUBE (the quickest way to get back on the road again)

**** REPAIRING THE PUNCTURED INNER TUBE (which we can do back at home if it is repairable)

If time allows, we will also learn how to make an emergency repair to a broken chain and have an opportunity to ask questions about any other issues we may have with our bikes.

The workshop will be led my Mark (shop manager) and Scott (workshop manager) and is being offered exclusively to our '60Something' cycling group.

As a group we are now able to cycle further afield so walking home (or being rescued !!) is becoming less of an option, so it is now increasingly important that we can all deal with a puncture when we are out and about.

Our first workshop was a great success although we didn't have time to cover anything more than the basics. The number of places have therefore been limited again to ensure that everyone will leave feeling competent that they can change their inner tube in the event of a puncture.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING A FUTURE WORKSHOP PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THE WAITING LIST.

COST £20

If you would like more information please contact Rosemary with your contact number.

This is a 'hands on' workshop working on your own bike, you should bring along your pump, inner tube and the tools (if any) that you carry on a ride.
