Skeptics on the Fringe:Jonny Scaramanga-My escape from fundamentalism

Details

Jonny Scaramanga went to a school in Bath where science lessons taught him that the earth was less than 10,000 years old, that humans and dinosaurs lived together in the Garden of Eden, and it was a sin for governments to provide healthcare or benefits. He also learned that dating was a sin, and he committed himself to save all intimacy with the opposite sex until God revealed the One he would marry.

When he was 16, he stopped going to church and began the long journey to discovering what was real and what wasn’t. This is how it happened.

On the day he was born, Jonny was presented with a Bible signed by one of America’s most infamous televangelists. It was not going to be an ordinary life.

His parents were some of Britain’s most vocal advocates the Prosperity Gospel — the belief that faith in Jesus could make you healthy, rich, and successful. All you had to do was show your commitment by giving your money to God.
