About us
Edinburgh Skeptics Society promotes science, reason and critical thinking in Edinburgh and Scotland. We have recently launched a Podcast if you are further afield.
Come along if you enjoy thought-provoking talks and discussions and friendly social meets. We have several events each month, as well during the Edinburgh Science Festival and Fringe. Most events are free, but we ask for donations to cover costs (like this meetup group) and speakers' travel and accommodation. We Respect People and Challenge Ideas.
Please RSVP - it helps us estimate numbers. Unfortunately space is limited, so if you are late we may not be able to hold your place.

Dr Kat Ford - The Only Skeptic in Glastonbury
The Banshee Labyrinth, 29-35 Niddry Street, EH1 1LG, Edinburgh, GBSkeptics On The Fringe presents: Dr Kat Ford - The Only Skeptic in Glastonbury
Glastonbury is probably the most spiritually diverse town in the UK, it is steeped in myths, legends, and spiritual mystique. According to estimates it attracts over 100,000 tourists and spiritual pilgrims every year, and many of the permanent residents of Glastonbury are committed to spiritual exploration. As a postdoctoral research fellow Kat Ford moved to Glastonbury to try and gain a better understanding of modern spirituality, of how ideas spread and change, of what attracts people to alternative spiritual paths, and the enduring spiritual allure of Glastonbury itself. As an atheist and long term member of the UK Skeptical community, what did Kat learn when she spent 18 months as a professional people watcher and vibe checker in the centre of modern British spirituality.
Dr Kat Ford is a postdoctoral research fellow at Brunel University London, currently working on the Spirits and Sources project which explores alternative spiritual beliefs in Glastonbury UK. She gained her PhD in Psychology from the Centre for Culture and Evolution and Brunel University where she looked at the relationship between religious cognition and optimism.

This event is free to attend as part of the PBH Free Fringe, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn't end up in anyone's pocket - it is used to fund our overhead costs, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield., as well as supporting the Free Fringe overall. Please note there are some steps in the venue so if you have motor difficulties, please let us know and we may be able to make other arrangements.
