The UK’s premiere Geek songstress is back at the Fringe!

The musical third of Festival of the Spoken Nerd has been working with scientists to create collaborative songs about their work. Using her Voice of an Angle and trusty ukulele she’ll be “In Her Element” performing new songs and old favourites

“Champion of musical whims” (Evening Standard)
“If the show was peer-reviewed, it would get full marks” (Fest)
“Scientifically verifiable songs and statistically significant laughter… clever comedy at its best” (The Skinny)

Helen is also appearing in Festival of the Spoken Nerd: Just for Graphs (https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/festival-of-the-spoken-nerd-just-for-graphs)at the Assembly George Square Studios at 18:30 August 5-16 and Aug 18-30.

Presenter and geek songstress Helen Arney thought she’d left her scientific past behind after graduating in Physics from Imperial College, but it wasn’t long before she found herself writing quirky stand-up and songs inspired by her days in the lab.

Since then she’s performed everywhere from Hammersmith Apollo to CERN in Geneva, toured the UK in “Uncaged Monkeys” with Robin Ince and Brian Cox, and taken her own award-winning solo show “Voice of an Angle” to the Edinburgh Fringe. Helen frequently pops up on our television and airwaves, including BBC2 “Coast”, Comedy Central “Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience”, BBC Radio 5Live “Bacon’s Theory” and as a lead presenter in “You Have Been Warned/Outrageous Acts Of Science” on Discovery Channel. Helen makes up one third of science comedy phenomenon Festival of the Spoken Nerd, whose most recent show “Full Frontal Nerdity” is out now on DVD and download (http://festivalofthespokennerd.com/dvd/). She has also filled several notebooks with rhymes for Uranus, none of which are printable here.

*** RSVPing does NOT GUARANTEE you a seat for these events ***

This is because they are part of PBH's Free Fringe and are Free and un-ticketed. Come early, seating is limited and we have to turn people away most nights.

Details are here on Meetup and on our main website. If there are any changes to our published speakers, we will try to send an email to anyone whose said they're be attending, but please check online for changes.

All events start at 7.50 pm prompt and last for 1 hour (with discussions in the bar afterwards). We will try to include a couple of questions in the hour long talk but this may not be possible.

Please note that these restrictions, the timeslot, and the venue are out-with our realistic control, and we apologise for any inconvenience.

The queue for our talks runs from the front door of the Banshee up Niddry Street towards the High Street. Come early to avoid disappointment, we have to turn people away most nights. Committee members will have a "COMMITTEE" lanyard and other people involved in putting the talk on will have a "VOLUNTEER" lanyard.

We ask for donations at the end of each talk to cover our speakers' expenses and our publicity and other costs throughout the Fringe and the rest of the year. Edinburgh Skeptics is funded entirely by the generosity of the people who come to the talks and is only made possible by the speakers and volunteers who freely give up their time.

Our "Respect People, Challenge Ideas" manifesto will apply to all events and can be read here:
