If you are new to Effective Altruism ("EA") or if you want to introduce acquaintances to EA, this is an ideal event. Restaurant is BYOB and wine will be provided by the group, food purchases are up to the attendees.

In a Giving Game a certain amount of money is at stake ($100 for each attendee in this case) and the group will be voting on where the money goes at the end of the evening. We will hear presentations (5-10 minutes) on at least three difference charities: Against Malaria Foundation, The Humane League and the Center for Effective Altruism. There will be a discussion and Q&A (in smaller groups if necessary) and we will vote on whether it will be a winner-take-all decision or a certain split of winnings. Attendees that want to donate the pot will be able to do so at any time and anonymously. Finally the group will rank vote and the final decision will be made. NOTE: Attendees do not have to contribute anything, funding for the donation has been secured from external parties.

We also welcome additional charities than those mentioned above so if you or someone you know would like to present another charity or intervention or non-profit just let us know at the outset and feel free to email the group ahead of time for additional details: eaphiladelphia@gmail.com
