About us
Welcome to Escape London City Explorers a walking and social group aiming at doing a range of guided walks and social trips to cities outside of London from London and guided walks and hikes within London.
The idea is to do a short country hike or city urban walk exploring cities or towns fairly close to London such as Oxford, Brighton, Portsmouth or Stratford-upon-Avon.
Transport will be either by train or coach, the group is twined with two other groups London Explorers (London walks & hikes) and Chiltern Explorers (countryside hikes within the Chilterns and further afield).

Newhaven to Brighton – Country Hike & Sea Views
London Bridge Station, 21 Duke Street Hill, London, Camberwell, GBWalk length 12miles/19km approx. Linear.
A chance to enjoy a seaside hike from Newhaven to Brighton on a moderate although undulating coastal downland and urban hike.
At the end of the hike there should be sometime to enjoy Brighton
a town once described as London-by-the-Sea with a rich and varied history.We may get the chance to have a swim on Brighton Beach at the end of the hike.
The meeting point is London Bridge Train Station. Meet next to the main ticket office opposite the WHSmith. See photo below.
Meet from 8.30am to give us time to get tickets. The 0905am train gets to Brighton for 10.13am. We need to get a single train ticket at Brighton to Newhaven Town. The 10.36am gets to Newhaven Town at 11.11am for the walk to start.
Cost: Train £16.50 (Super Off-Peak Return) or less with a group save, network railcard or ordered online. Single ticket to Newhaven town £5.90 but could be cheaper with a network or railcard discount.
Meet at 11.15am outside Newhaven Town Station for the walk to start after the train arrives from Brighton (linear walk) .There are regular trains back from Brighton to London or Newhaven if you are collecting your car.
Car Parking in Newhaven but if driving you will need to collect your car as this is a linear walk.

The walk should finish about 5pm at Brighton but the time may be slightly earlier or later.

Walking Safety

Henley, Culham Court Deer Park & Hurley – Long Country Hike
London Paddington, Railway Station, London, GBWalk length 16miles/26km approx. Circular.
A long circular hike from Henley to Littlewick Green exploring various features from the Thames path close to Culham Court Deer Park and, Henley to various woods and fields some with far reaching views across open countryside and the Thames.
We will probably have lunch at Littlewick Green which has a village green and pub. At the end of the walk we will have a optional pub stop.
PLEASE BE AWARE THIS IS A LONG HILLY HIKE SO PLEASE ONLY RSVP IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS AND CAN KEEP A REASONABLE PACE. BE AWARE IF THE WEATHER IS BAD THE HIKE MAY BE SHORTENED.
Cost
Cost: £7 cash or paypal (colin45@hotmail.co.uk) payable on the day guided walk & meetup costs. You can do paypal or bank transfer if you prefer, please message the organizer.
Train £17 approx. return with a network railcard or groupsave discount.
Lunch and Finish
Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. The walk should finish before 5.00pm and includes a pack lunch stop and pub stop at the end, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (this is a complete day hike, you are advised not to arrange anything for the evening).

Meet outside Henley train station for the walk to start at 10.27am (after the train from London arrives).
By train from London: The London Paddington train at 9.38am gets to Henley-on-Thames for 10.27am with a short change at Twyford. I would encourage you to seek out other members who can go as part of a group save on the train and meet from 9.00am to give you time to get tickets.

Train times may be amended before the event.Car: The station car park at Henley charges but there are a number of off road streets that should be free on a Sunday,

Bexhill, Battle & Swim – Long Hilly Country Hike
Victoria Rail Station, City of Westminster, London, SW1V 1, GBWalk length 16miles/25km Circular
A picturesque route from the Town of Bexhill to Battle across scenic countryside much of it using the 1066 Country Walk trail and exploring woods such as Powdermill Wood and Fore Wood Nature Reserve.
The lunch stop will be at the small town of Battle made famous as the site of the Battle of Hastings.
We will try to enjoy a swim at Bexhill at the end of the walk weather permitting.
The hike is Circular from Bexhill and starts from Bexhill Rail Station Rail Station at 10.15am after the train from London arrives.
Meeting at London: Meet from 8.00am at London Victoria station (close to the Gatwick Express meeting point close to platform 13 & 14 see photo below) to get the 8.24am train arriving at Bexhill for 10.13am (please be prompt if you want to get group saves.The 8.24am gets to Bexhill for 10.13am (one change at Hampden Park (Sussex), There are regular trains back to London.
