Winter Potluck: Dreaming About Summer Bike Touring
Time to once again start dreaming about the tandem touring you'd like to do this coming summer by seeing presentations by ETC members from some of their wanderings in distant and exciting locations. Oh, yes, and do the other thing we like to do in groups besides riding our tandems: have a great meal. This year's armchair tandeming comes to us from Paul Dutky and Dianne Iverson and their first overseas tandem adventure. They cycled in and around Paris for a week before embarking on a 15 day bike and barge tour aboard the Dutch barge Feniks. Besides showing us some great photography from their travels, they will also share their experience packing and shipping their tandem, as well as how they organized home exchanges in Paris and Brugge. They enjoyed this first tandem adventure so much that they have already scheduled their next bike and barge trip for Italy, going from Bolzano to Venice. The Potluck will follow the script pretty much from the last 2 years of very successful winter potlucks & presentations. Start arriving at noon, with nibbling to start when a few nibble-worthy items appear, with full lunch starting about 12:30 (you can get here late, but please get your food item here by then!) 'Round about 1:30 we'll start our vicarious vacationing with Paul and Dianne. Dessert to follow at about 2:30. If the weather is tandem-friendly, consider riding from Gasworks Park (4 miles away) or UW (7 miles, with free parking on Sundays in most of the lots), or even from your home, following the Burke-Gilman Trail. Sunset West is right across the street from the B-G. We'll end early enough to get back in daylight, or bring lights if you're dawdlers . Hosts Jeff and Louise will be serving up some hot homemade soup. Coffee and tea will also be provided. Non-binding recommendations are for those with monochromatic tandems to bring lunch items and those with multi-color tandems to show up with desserts or other beverages, but feel free to disregard and bring your own specialty in whichever category suits you, no matter what your tandem looks like. Listing what you'll be bringing when you sign up will help ensure we don't have 5 versions of the same dish. The meeting room has all the plates, bowls, silverware etc we need, and a dishwasher to boot! There is a stove with oven and a microwave for any items that need a little heating up (or apple pie that needs baking for the dessert course). Lots of free parking. When you arrive, let the guard at the gatehouse know you're here for the event and s/he will direct you to the parking area. There are two tall buildings at the condos, and the meeting room is at street level between the two, but attached to the one closer to the water.

The Evergreen Tandem Club has been promoting the joy of tandem riding since 2001. We are a collection of tandem enthusiasts who love to ride in a variety of locations sharing the adventure with others. Our goal is to provide, sponsor and support tandem bicycling events throughout the Pacific Northwest. Centered in the greater Seattle area, we reach from Vancouver, BC to Olympia, WA and as far east as Bend, OR. Our members include recreational riders, exercise enthusiasts and racers. We post member-led rides, workshops and social events that appeal to those who ride and are interested in tandems at just about any level. Our rides are open to everyone, so come and join our club so we can ride together!

Evergreen tandem rides are open to Meet Up members who ride tandem or want to learn about tandem riding. Due to insurance regulations, MeetUp members may ride ONE TIME with ETC before becoming paid members to enjoy the benefits and safety of riding with a group. The cost of membership is $25 per year for both captain and stoker.
