Topics & Speakers

Web Virtual Reality • Diego Gonzalez (https://twitter.com/diekus), Samsung Internet, London, UK

The web has learnt some new tricks, and in a world driven by technology, democratizing new mediums of communication is key for innovation. Let me uncover and re-introduce to you one of the most mysterious - yet known - pieces of software in every computational device: the web browser. Let me explain how can we bridge worlds and experiences by tapping a link.

Diego Gonzalez-Zuniga, PhD (diekus) is a Senior Engineer at Samsung Research UK. He works as a Developer Advocate in the Samsung Internet team. He recently completed his PhD in Informatics researching Stereoscopic Graphical User Interfaces in Barcelona. His main interests are the use of 3D in applications, WebVR (VR), Graphical User Interfaces, creative uses of technology, video games and gadgets.

Samsung Internet for Android is the web browser that is pre-installed on Samsung Galaxy Phones. It is based on the open source Chromium project, to which Samsung are a major contributor. The browser is made available via the Galaxy Apps Store, the Play Store and carrier updates. In March 2017, the beta version became publicly available for both Samsung Galaxy and Google Experience Devices. It has hundreds of millions active users.

Advanced TypeScript • Marius Schulz (https://twitter.com/mariusschulz), Munich

TypeScript has come a long way over the years. Its type system has become increasingly expressive and is now capable of statically capturing surprisingly dynamic aspects of JavaScript.

Join me as I explore how various advanced features of the type system (such as non-nullable types, control flow based type analysis, discriminated unions, and mapped types) help you write more maintainable code with fewer bugs.

Marius is freelance developer, JavaScript trainer and instructor at http://egghead.io . He is curator of http://typescript-weekly.com , too. Check out his blog (https://blog.mariusschulz.com/).

New buzzword or the next big thing?: Progressive Web Apps • Steffen Jahr (https://twitter.com/steffenjahr), Thinktecture, Karlsruhe

Since the term Progressive Web Apps (PWA) appeared they are celebrated as the end of the app stores. They can receive push notifications and available offline. Also, they can sync data in the background and can be installed without any app store. But, how can this be achieved and how does it work? And which technologies are used?

Steffen Jahr shows you an overview about the technical insights of Progressive Web Applications with the aid of a demo application.
