We're opening the space up for some build days for locals building modified Power Wheels cars to compete in the Power Racing Series. An event will be part of Atlanta Maker Faire in October, and there will be some opportunities to race at other regional Mini Maker Faires as well. http://www.powerracingseries.org/
Are you building a car? Bring it down and build it with us in the workshop at Freeside! Want to build a car, but don't know how? Come on down, lend a hand, start or join a team! Total budget for a car is $500, not including the original donor child ride-on, 50% of the fair market value of the batteries in the car when it is racing, and a handful of safety gear, spares, tools and chargers in the pits. Count on a build costing $500 to $1000. We're going to meet every other Sunday to build, and may add additional meetups (days TBD) as Maker Faire gets closer. We may also piggyback onto some Freeside Open House nights to do some low impact work (it's hard to safely weld or operate large equipment with a lot of guests at the space).
