Power Racing Series Build

We're opening the space up for some build days for locals building modified Power Wheels cars to compete in the Power Racing Series. An event will be part of Atlanta Maker Faire in October, and there will be some opportunities to race at other regional Mini Maker Faires as well. http://www.powerracingseries.org/

Are you building a car? Bring it down and build it with us in the workshop at Freeside! Want to build a car, but don't know how? Come on down, lend a hand, start or join a team! Total budget for a car is $500, not including the original donor child ride-on, 50% of the fair market value of the batteries in the car when it is racing, and a handful of safety gear, spares, tools and chargers in the pits. Count on a build costing $500 to $1000. We're going to meet every other Sunday to build, and may add additional meetups (days TBD) as Maker Faire gets closer. We may also piggyback onto some Freeside Open House nights to do some low impact work (it's hard to safely weld or operate large equipment with a lot of guests at the space).

Thanks to those who could make it out today. We made a little progress tearing down the Freeside Escalade, cutting up some old bikes, and a general review of the rules. See everyone in two weeks!

I was looking forward to helping with this but due to an illness, I need to opt out. I will make future buildouts though.

I hoped I would be able to hang out for this, but isn't working out today so y'all have fun!

I have zero experience in such things, but I'd like to lend a hand and learn. Unfortunately, I'm not available this Sunday.

Yeah, sorry for doing the first one on Father's Day, but I wanted to get kicked off sooner rather than later, and it made the weekends fall to miss July 4th weekend, Dragon*Con and a few preset plans.

I've been the one working to bring PRS to Atlanta. I will do my best to swing by. I'm encouraged by the groups already starting on their cars. My EV experience is one converted Chevy S-10, a go-kart (top speed 40mph) and a motorcycle (top speed 165mph). That has been with a team, I'm not just a crazy person doing all that myself. Feel free to contact me with any questions or anything else I can do to support you. By the way, somewhat important note, the track will be on a slight incline and so there will be an uphill and downhill section.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this time due to conflicting holiday plans, but I definitely plan to participate in upcoming meetings.

I'll be bringing a chassis as well. Jeff Hull and I started a team a couple of weeks ago.
I made a page to track and share our progress: http://goo.gl/X8SPNI

Currently we're in process of spec'ing/finding a motor and figuring out what to do about chassis reinforcement/frame.

We could use some help and team members and are particularly interested in connecting with people in Cobb County along the I-75 corridor

I'll be bringing two chassis to the first meetup. One that I'm building, and one that is available for a second team to build. We can discuss the rules, part sources, etc. I'll probably just be doing some measurements, planning and test fitting for my build this weekend.
