Morning Light - Fredericksburg Photo Walk

This is a series of two hour photowalks January through March, which will be getting progressively later in the day from winter into spring. You are welcome to join in anytime, or for the entire series. (Event post photo made in October, an hour or so after sunrise)

Dawn Walk: 7am on Jan 4th (Sunrise is 7:27)
Morning Walk: 9am on Jan 18th
Late Morning Walk: 11am on Feb 1 (Solar Noon is at 12:23)
Early Afternoon Walk: 1pm on Feb 15
Mid Afternoon Walk: 3pm on Mar 1
Late Afternoon/Evening Walk: 5pm on Mar 15 (clocks changed forward on the 12th)
Dusk into Night Walk: 7pm on Mar 29 (Sunset is 7:30)

We’ll have the same route start each walk, from the top of the parking structure, down Sophia St. to the William Street bridge. After the bridge, we can vary the route based on participants’ interests each walk. We’ll be walking primarily on sidewalks, but may encounter ice.

Since these are winter photowalks, please dress warmly, and in layers, as we’ll be alternately stopping and moving. Bring whatever gear you’d like. Tripods optional. An extra battery is a good idea, as they often discharge faster in cold weather.

For me, I plan to use a 28mm prime lens on a crop frame camera for normal (42mm equivalent) field of view. By limiting my equipment, I plan to narrow my choices down to basics like light and composition. Additionally, I plan to limit myself to just black and white in the beginning, but may drop that if it’s not appealing to me later.

I encourage others to consider a project you can do over a several walk series, as well.
