Thank you, thank you, thank you! to all the volunteers who cleaned up the 40 year backlog of artifacts and detritis! Friends of Calico is now at the point of cataloging all the remains. Volunteers are needed at the San Bernardino County Museum for two positions:
Experienced sorter: Requires training and experience in recognizing artifacts and their manufacture to do final sorting for a final assemblage. Clerical worker: General copying, sorting, filing, entering artifact data on computer. You will be in the museum archives with Dr. Adella (Dee) Schroth and experienced volunteers, learning by propinquity. DR. Adella (Dee) Schroth, San Bernardino County Curator of Anthropology and Project Director/Archaeologist for the Calico Early Man Site, will oversee cataloguing and processing of artifacts and associated paperwork to complete a final artifact assemblage.
Bring your enthusiasm, good humor, and a magnifying glass if you have them. Lunch and drink are optional; several fast-food outlets are nearby. Do not dress up; jeans, sweatpants, etc. with tennis shoes are the perfect uniform. Dusty artifact environment.
Hours are from 9am until 4:00pm, but you may come later or leave earlier.
The Museum is in Redlands, California, midway between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, and just north of Interstate 10. Take the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands, turn north, then right onto Orange Tree Lane and left into the Museum parking lot.
The Museum is also accessible by using Redlands Omnitrans Bus Route #8.
Report to the front desk in the main museum. They will call Dee Schroth and give you directions.read less
