Sorrento, Capri, and Naples

We will depart the US on October 15th and arrive in Naples the next day. We start this tour off with 5 relaxing nights in Sorrento. This trip will offer plenty of time to explore in smaller groups and at your own pace.

Our first stop is Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento has no major tourist attractions per se, only the town itself with its enchanting palazzi and charming historic quarter. Set high atop a bluff on the peninsula it has a stunning view of the Bay of Naples. There are fabulous restaurants and nightlife as well as charming streets where you can shop and browse. Its streets seem like 19th-century sepia photographs with ruins of the Roman Empire strewn about and Vesuvius looming in the distance. As a hub for a banquet of must-see sites - Pompeii and Naples to the north and Amalfi Coast to the south - Sorrento is unequaled. The Sorrento peninsula also offers the best beaches and restaurants.

We'll have 5 full days to enjoy included and optional tours to many of the beautiful and historic places such as Pompeii and Herculaneum, the most completely preserved cities of classical antiquity. One of the included tours will be hired vans for a full day tour of the Amalfi Coast. This will make it easy for us to visit some of the other quaint villages nestled in the hillsides along the Amalfi coast at our own pace. It's a spectacular ride that takes you along the sea as the road wiggles in and out hundreds of feet above the water. This road was completed in 1852 and is a seemingly improbably engineering feat. Gorgeous vistas appear along these almost 25 miles stretching from Sorrento to Vietri. Some of the notable towns on the drive include the nearby Positano, that's built like a steep amphitheater this town's only job is to look enchanting.

Offering a dazzling layer cake of civilizations this medieval city is so picturesque it will practically click your camera for you. I almost booked our group to stay here rather than Sorrento but there isn't enough to do and Sorrento was much more convenient. Vettica Maggiore with it's priceless panorama from the seaside piazza and church; Conca Dei Marini, retreat of the rich and famous with its villas and churches; Atrani, lined with piggy-backed houses and corkscrew staircases this medieval town revolves around a picture-perfect piazza; Amalfi, the largest town and must-do because of its spectacular cathedral and impossibly romantic souk-like streets; and Cetara with it's waterfront cafes. Is your mouth watering? Mine was when I looked at those images. Unbelievably scenic.

Another included tour will include wonderful day tour out to the island of Procida. Then, one of the optional tours you may be interested in would be to see the Amalfi Coast by sea. In the past we've hired beautiful wooden boats to take us for the day. This might be best set up while we're there however to make sure the sea is calm.

After our 5-nights in this fascinating city we will hop aboard a ferry that will whisk us off to the enchanting island of Capri where we will spend the next 4-nights. Capri is a balmy and palmy never-never land that has been the darling of tourism for 2,500 years. It's incomparable views and natural wonders - I Faraglioni and the Blue Grotto are just two of the not-to-be-missed sites on this fabled isle. With 3 full days here we'll have ample time to enjoy everything that this charming island has to offer.

The town itself is a Moorish stage set of sparkling white houses, tiny squares, and narrow medieval alleyways hung with flowers, while it's hillsides are spectacular settings for luxurious seaside villas.

Our hotel is right in the center of Capri Town giving us full access to the shopping and amazing restaurants on the hill. Another included tour will be a complete tour of Capri including a visit to the famous Blue Groto,(weather permitting) We will also enjoy some great down time here where you might enjoy strolling the town.

Finally, we're capping off our trip with 1 night in Naples where we will offer an optional visit to Pompeii and take in this very historic city.

The last 3 trips included also Iceland and was a 14-day trip. We decided to skip Iceland this time around in exchange for additional time in both Ireland and Scotland which will also make for a more relaxing trip.

This trip will have it all - 10-nights of island hopping bliss. We start off with 5-nights on Moorea. This is a small island that is mostly unchanged over the last 50 years. It's quaint pensions and cute restaurants, palm trees that dip over the water and the dreamy, multi-hued water in the lagoons that the reef protects. We’ve been given an incredible group discount at the beautiful Manava Resort, a truly upscale, 4-star resort situated in a picturesque setting with an infinity pool, white sand beach and over-water bungalows. We've stayed here many times now and everyone always loves it.

There’s plenty of great sightseeing and tours to do in Moorea including scuba diving and their famous shark feeding, snorkeling with sting rays, dolphins and whales, visiting off-shore motu’s (small islands), 4-wheel jeep safari, motor scooter rentals where you can ride around the whole island or just relaxing by the pool.

Once again, this resort is walking distance to several great restaurants that are not overly expensive. Restaurants will even send vans to pick people up situated in a picturesque setting with an infinity pool, white sand beach and over-water bungalows. We've stayed here many times now and everyone always loves it.

The stated price is with Garden Rooms but we also have Beach Bungalows and Overwater Bungalows reserved. See info below regarding upgrades. All have air conditioning, television and mini bar. The garden pool bungalows offer their own private plunge pool! If you’ve always fantasized about staying in an overwater bungalow, this is your best chance with our group discount. Our stay will also includes the fabulous breakfast buffet.

Next up is 5-nights on Bora Bora. We will fly on prop planes soon after we land in Papeete. Our stay here is at a great hotel called Mai Tai Hotel. We've brought several groups here as well and it's just perfect. Most people will get oceanview rooms (sign up early to guarantee) but you may also upgrade at this hotel to beachfront or over-water bungalows (see info below). It’s the perfect location where we are able to walk to several restaurants in the neighborhood rather than depend on the resort. Yes, it's true that Bora Bora and Moorea CAN be expensive, but done right, where you can walk to local restaurants, it is no more expensive than home. We'll have more great tours planned here including a 4-wheel drive tour, a wave runner tour, snorkeling circle island tour where you can pet sting rays, scuba diving and more.

Since our Tahiti I trip is nearly sold out already we are now offering a less expensive option with this trip. This trip is $600 less plus the single supplement is another $400 less - together that's a $1,000 difference! So what is the difference in the two trips? The biggest difference is the hotel change on Moorea. We will be at the Cooks Bay Hotel and Resort which is another fantastic hotel that offers suites and is right on Cook's Bay with awesome views of Bali Hai. With Cooks Bay Hotel there are also no mandatory dinners included as was the case with Tahiti I and we've also opted to not include breakfast in Moorea. We brought a group at Cooks Bay Hotel 25 years ago and now with the renovations and suites I'm certain you'll be delighted with the choice.
