What we're about

Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance (GPCA) is pleased to announce a Classical concert series Music Under Glass - "Classical Notes in Nature". The Sunday concerts furthers the mission of the GPCA to bring the wonders of the Conservatory to a new and wider audience. This program, as all of our programs is intended to showcase the Conservatory's unique combination of Music and Nature. And as added bonus, we are delighted to include our seasonal showcase and installation for the enjoyment of our audience.

Each season will consist of three concerts, to be presented on September, December, and April. Each concert will be presented with a wine reception and an opportunity to meet the artists. We suggest you arrive early so you may tour the newly renovated conservatory and its seasonal installation. Our Concerts will each be set in a different area of the Conservatory, either indoors or outdoors as weather permits, allowing the audience to enjoy the seasonal changes of our gardens as well as some of the finest classical musicians in America.

Thanks to our staff and volunteers, our concerts have been very well attended! Here are some photos:

From Mozart to Havana

Garfield Park Conservatory

The cultural climate in Cuba has always been affected by Spanish idioms as well as strong Cajun and African influences which often prevail. However, the classical backbone is always within reach of the composers. The rigors of the western classical music in Europe served as giant underpinnings for Cuban composers featured on this program with works of prominent Cuban composers Jose White and Ernesto Lecuona. Performance will include works from Mozart, Dvorak and Strauss. The listeners will be presented with music from both continents and will at once captivated by passionate music filtered through the tastes and flavors of their cultures.
