WALALALALA ACTION!
Sick of soulless Hollywood films? Reboots, remakes, and cash-grab garbage? Do I ever have the movie for you!
Shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia: "Wakaliwood, also known as Ramon Film Productions, is a film studio based in Wakaliga, a slum in Uganda's capital of Kampala. Its founder and director is Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey Nabwana, a.k.a. Nabwana IGG, who has been called Uganda's Tarantino, after the gratuitous violence in his films. Wakaliwood is best known for its ultra-low budget (estimated to be in the region of $200) ultra-violent movies, such as Who Killed Captain Alex?, Bad Black, Tebaatusasula, and the upcoming crowdsourced film Tebaatusasula: Ebola."
I'll be screening 2 movies, "Who Killed Captain Alex?" (which people may be familiar with via YouTube, memes, the internet in general) and "Bad Black" (which I haven't yet seen, so I am HYPED). Expect both to be filled with gunfights, kung fu, humour and truckloads of passion and creativity (as well as a voiceover that essentially MST3K's the movie).
Not sold yet? The Studio's 2015 Kickstarter video pitch serves as a pretty good mini-documentary on the people, place, and film equipment that goes into making these movies - it's absolutely unreal: https://youtu.be/cvhjTNqaKDY
I can't wait to share these movies with you!
NOTE: Due to the obvious technical limitations of the studio behind these films, please don't come to laugh AT it. We'll be watching to laugh WITH it and appreciate the pure love the director has for action films.
