Dear Overcomers,

Depression and anxiety issues are two of the biggest mental health challenges facing by many of us. We know that medication alone is not the solution. The solution does not lie in a pill. The solution lies inside of us: our minds.

As a psychiatrist focuses on medications and a psychologist/therapist focuses on symptoms management and coping skills, a mental health recovery coach will help to focus on a whole health wellness approach and life management.

As a Mental Health Recovery Coach, I am using a whole-person recovery model (mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual) and a strengths-based integrative approach - positive psychology, cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness practice, choice theory, emotional healing coaching and grief recovery process - to help people to manage and overcome depression, anxiety and other mental health issues.

For over the past 30 months, we have been growing from a meetup group to officially launched as a social enterprise - H.O.P.E. ALLIANCE, where H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Our Peers Excel!

I have been using some of the integrative strategies and interventions to help and support two Peer Learning Peer Circles (fomerly known as Peer Support Groups) for adults living with depression, anxiety disorder and other mental challenges. One group for the peers regardless of the race and religion, and other group is for the Christians.

The purpose for this platform is to provide a safe peer learning community for us to share with one another without fear, rejected or judgement, and learn from one another how we cope with daily challenges. I believe that everyone has a story to share and your story is valuable for our learning.

This Meetup is for people who are going through a rough patch in their lives and in the process for their recovery journeys:

+ to get together to support one another

+ to learn new life skills

+ to recover

+ to find joy

+ to develop healthy relationships with themselves and others

YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this community.

I believe in helping the members to live a more vibrant life though engagement of your talents and interests.

We have formed different Activity Groups based on the interests:

1) Sports

2) Creative Arts

3) Music & Singing (Karaoke & Music Jamming)

4) Writers Club

5) Urban Gardening

All these activity groups are peers-led.
