Upcoming: HTML5DevConf, TwilioCon, Open-Source Workshop, and more...

Hey everyone -

Before I get into this week's newsletter of links...

Do you have design chops? Many GirlDevelopIt chapters have their own logo, and it'd be sweet if GDI SF did too. Maybe a logo with the bridge in it? If you have any ideas or mocks, send them over.

On that note, we're brainstorming a design workshop now, because we've heard a lot of interest and UI and UX. That will probably be in October. Stay tuned!

And, now, for the regularly scheduled program of links to upcoming events, conferences (like TwilioCon from our favorite sponsor), and applications. Happy Labor Day!

Upcoming Events:

  • Thurs, Sep 13: WomenWhoCode Hack Night
  • Wed, Sep 19: Mozilla WebFWD Team Graduation
  • Wed, Oct. 3: PyLadies Mini Pycon
  • Wed, Oct. 3: Mobile Strategy Design with Luke W

  • Sept. 24: Create the Web, All-day event by Adobe (Free)
  • Oct. 15-16: HTML5 Dev Conf (~$100)
  • Oct 16-18: TwilioCon by Twilio
    • If you have some experience with coding and entepreneurship, this conference may be just up your alley. The first day is a workshop day of Twilio tutorials and hands-on coding labs, and the next two days range from technical to building a business to cool uses of telephony.
    • For a 25% discount, you can use this discount code: FAMILYFRIENDS25

Cool Links:

  • A local programmer is putting together a workshop on how to get involved in open-source, which sounds like it could be interesting. Check his post for more info:
  • The HackBright Academy is looking for Python instructors and TAs to teach their next batch of (female) wanna-be Python hackers. Email [address removed] if interested.
  • Someone put together this collection of links to free Python books online - lots of them!

Applications Due Soon:

Weekly Study Groups:

  • Monday nights: Noisebridge frontend meetups
  • Tuesday nights: WWC Ruby Tuesdays
  • Wednesday nights: WWC South Bay Co-working Group
  • Wednesday nights: Womens’ JavaScript Study Group
