What we're about

Hey there. We are Glasgow Korfball Club and we have been promoting our mixed-gender sport in Glasgow and the west for the last 12 years and we are on the lookout for new members who want to come down and try out it out!

Every Monday we run a beginner-friendly session at our new base at the Glasgow Academy in the West End. The session will be led by a qualified korfball coach and will cater for players of all abilities. The first two session you attend are free and will begin ay 19:00 and will finish at 20:30.

BUT HANG ON, WHAT EVEN IS KORFBALL?

Korfball is a fun and exciting sport that anyone can play. It bears similarities to netball and basketball in that the aim is to throw a ball into a basket but there a number of rules that mean it is quite different to both. Uniquely, it is the world's only exlusively MIXED-SEX SPORT. This means that all korfball teams must always have four male and four female players on the court at all times. Each player is then in a duel with an opponent of the same sex and must use their speed, agility and skill to break free to shoot and score. This creates a fast, dynamic sport that requires teamwork and cooperation to achieve success.

But you know what - we'll cover all this stuff off when you arrive. The most important thing is you come and give it a try.

Weekly Korfball Training Sessions

G12 8HE

The weekly korfball sessions at Glasgow Academy on Monday evenings continue. The sessions are aimed at a beginner to intermediate level so if you've never played before or even heard of korfball that's fine, please come along and give it a try. We train in the main sports hall at Glasgow Academy. If you go into the car park you should have an outdoor pitch on your right hand side. Keep walking straight ahead to the building in front of you. Find the door (it's to the left of the building) and go in. Walk down the corridor and the sports hall is on the right hand side If you find yourself in a hall with fairly high posts and yellow baskets, you have found the right place! Pat will be running the session so ask for him when you get there. Only need to bring indoor trainers, bottle of water. Wear running about clother obviously. Even better, the first session is free.
