What we're about
Hey there. We are Glasgow Korfball Club and we have been promoting our mixed-gender sport in Glasgow and the west for the last 13 years and we are on the lookout for new members who want to come down and try out it out!
We currently meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and sometimes Sundays if you really can't get enough Korfball!
On Mondays we meet at Hillpark Secondary School from 19:30-21:00.
On Wednesdays we meet at Shawlands Academy from 19:30-21:30.
These beginner friendly sessions will be led by a qualified korfball coach and will cater for players of all abilities.
Our Monday sessions in particular are ideal for beginners, with the additional bonus that these sessions are *FREE* to attend. Our Wednesday sessions offer a greater mix of experience and a good opportunity for new players to learn from our more experienced players. For players who don't normally attend on Wednesdays and pay fees, but would like to play in team matches we ask for a small contribution towards hall hire and kit.
BUT HANG ON, WHAT EVEN IS KORFBALL?
Korfball is a fun and exciting sport that anyone can play. It bears similarities to netball and basketball in that the aim is to throw a ball into a basket but there a number of rules that mean it is quite different to both. Uniquely, it is the world's only exlusively MIXED-SEX SPORT. This means that all korfball teams must always have four male and four female players on the court at all times. Each player is then in a duel with an opponent of the same sex and must use their speed, agility and skill to break free to shoot and score. This creates a fast, dynamic sport that requires teamwork and cooperation to achieve success.
But you know what - we'll cover all this stuff off when you arrive. The most important thing is you come and give it a try.
