Talk Travel - A glimpse into India
Few countries rival India for its sheer intensity. Get a glimpse of this exotic destination from four travelers. They will share their favorites sights, foods, and tips for getting around. If you have ever dreamed of traveling to this amazing country, come and be inspired. Already been? Then come and share your insights with others. This is a free meetup, however, we ask all attendees to donate $3 - $5. This money covers meetup costs and buys our speakers a drink. Also, please plan to eat and/or drink at the British Overseas Restaurant Corp (https://www.britishoverseasrestaurant.com/) as they are letting us use the space for free. Owner & traveler Sally, will be making special Indian dishes for our group that night. Our panel of speakers: *) Lauren Ravin has visited India 15 times over the past 17 years. Plus, she has led small groups there for the past five years through Ravens Caravan (http://www.ravenscaravan.com/). Lauren's niche is in Ethical Community Tourism, which means integrating into village communities. Her trips take you off the beaten path, where you can truly experience authentic village life, lodge at home stays and eat amazing home-cooked meals. Although her trips are designed for the older adventurous traveler (50+), an upcoming special South India trip will be open to anyone from the International Traveler & Travel Dreamers Meetup Group. *) Karen Mindt Howell is a long-time lover of India. In fact, it was when the Beatles made their sojourn to Rishikesh 50 years ago that she awakened to the lore of this exotic land. Traveling to India initially at the age of 20, she felt as if she'd come home. She has returned 6 times over the years and in 2015 established a tour company, American Veda Tours (http://philipgoldberg.com/american-veda-tours/) with author Phil Goldberg. Their tours focus on spiritual India and how it's traditions have migrated to and influenced the West. When she's not leading a tour, Karen is a psychotherapist living outside Portland, Oregon. *) Caitlin Murray is the co-founder of Purposeful Nomad (https://www.purposefulnomad.com/), a travel company that connects open-minded and compassionate women with incredible communities and experiences around the world. Earlier this year she went to India for the first time, although Jessica, the other co-founder of Purposeful Nomad, has been to India 8 times to live, work and photograph. In early 2019, Caitlin will return to India leading another group of women on a 15-day voyage in Rajasthan. The tour partners with Sambhali Trust, a foundation that empowers and educates more than 1000 women in Jodhpur, India. Govind Rathore, the foundation’s director will be our exclusive local tour leader providing us rare insight into this rich and ancient culture, their complex and outdated caste system and women’s rights in India. *) Daniel Bare spent 8-weeks in India as part of a year-long trip around the world. Dan will share his thoughts on this exotic land including the wonders, the foods, the challenges, and the chaos. Dan is the co-author of Before You Go Abroad Handbook, a bestselling travel tips book (https://www.amazon.com/Before-You-Abroad-Handbook-International-ebook/dp/B074JK74CJ/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=&dpID=51-KgJ%252BKDeL&preST=_SX342_QL70_&dpSrc=detail). This meetup begins with general socializing. The presentation on India will start around 6:40pm and ends about 7:40.
