Special Anthony Bourdain Tribute
Anthony Bourdain once said "If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody." That statement captures the importance of authentic travel, which is what our meetup group is about. His shows, No Reservations and Parts Unknown, made many hunger, not just for food, but for adventure. We have heard from many members that Bourdain touched their lives and inspired them to travel the world. That is why a month after Bourdain's death, we will meet to honor him. Meetup member Richard has found us the perfect location - the Jackrabbit restaurant in downtown Portland. This restaurant is owned by Chris Cosentino. Bourdain visited Cosentino's restaurant, Incanto in San Francisco, for a No Reservations episode. Jackrabbit also serves Bourdain's favorite drink - the Negroni (only $5 during happy hour.) Join us as we toast this travel icon. Who, as Barack Obama tweeted, "taught us about food -- but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together." This is a free event, however, on the day, we will pass the jar collecting donations to go to two charities - one for suicide prevention and the other to promote travel. Details at the event.

What we're about

We are world travelers who are passionate about cultural exchange, authentic and responsible travel, global adventure, life-changing experiences, unforgettable personal stories, slow travel, green travel and savvy travel on a budget. If you're as addicted to world travel as we are, or are interested in embarking on the life-long adventure towards fulfillment that we embrace as essential to our existence, you'll enjoy this group.

Join us for one of our many upcoming events, hook up with other members to plan a trip, or just relax on a social outing and share travel tips and stories with fellow adventurers. We have a monthly free Global Travel Social where travelers just come out and chat sharing stories and inspiration. We have a monthly free Talk Travel Meetup which has a travel theme. There are also Special Presentations on travel that may be free or may have a cost depending on venue. Plus, there are Travel Classes that, as the name implies are actual classes on how-to travel (tuition varies based on venue & length of class.)

If you are in the travel industry feel free to come to our meetups, but please no sales or pushing of tours. Instead, come meet the organizers and you may be able to do a presentation. Thanks.
