What we're about

It's only been in the last 10 years that I started regularly reading this genre. I know there had to be plenty of people in the Tacoma area wanting to share this passion with a group of like-minded readers. I did not see evidence of a book club Meetup devoted to Sci-Fi and Fantasy when I started looking. So, here we are. If you're passionate about reading and discussing sci-fi AND fantasy books, film and television this is the place for you! Once a month we'll meet to discuss the current book selection, as well as select the book and the date for the next month's reading. Along the way we take some time to talk about film and tv shows. Everyone gets a chance to offer up their favorites to the group. It's a great way to get recommendations from fellow enthusiasts and experience the myriad imagineerings from many different perspectives.

We're a relaxed bunch and we want to encourage you to come. Remember, something like 90% of life is just showing up. So come if you're read the book, come if you've not read the book, come if you hate the book, just come along and join us!

OCTOBER 2021: THE DARKNESS OUTSIDE US, by Eliot Schrefer

Spacefarers, join us in October to discuss THE DARKNESS OUTSIDE US by Eliot Schrefer. From Goodreads:

"After the first settler on Titan trips her distress signal, neither remaining country on Earth can afford to scramble a rescue of its own, and so two sworn enemies are installed in the same spaceship.

"Ambrose wakes up on the Coordinated Endeavor, with no memory of a launch. There’s more that doesn’t add up: Evidence indicates strangers have been on board, the ship’s operating system is voiced by his mother, and his handsome, brooding shipmate has barricaded himself away. But nothing will stop Ambrose from making his mission succeed—not when he’s rescuing his own sister.

"In order to survive the ship’s secrets, Ambrose and Kodiak will need to work together and learn to trust one another… especially once they discover what they are truly up against. Love might be the only way to survive."

After book discussion, we'll choose a date and title for the next meetup, then round-robin for "What are you reading/what are you watching."
