"Every Burns Supper has its own special form and flavour, though there are probably more similarities than differences among these gastro-literary affairs. Individual tastes and talents will determine the character of your Burns Supper. Some celebrants may contribute the composition of original songs or poems; some may excel at giving toasts or reciting verse; while others may be captivating storytellers. A particular group of celebrants will, over time, develop a unique group character which will distinguish their Burns Supper celebration from every other." http://www.robertburns.org/suppers/ Greater Boston Community Burns Supper, established in 2010 (originally at The Skellig), has matured over the years, and boasts its own unique character. How is this Burns Supper different from all other Burns Suppers? - It is organized and presented by the community, for the community. - There is no cover charge and no prix fixe, we just pass the hat to cover a few expenses. - There is a full vegetarian menu, including haggis. - It features the world's only (to our knowledge) "kosher haggis", complete with its very own "Address to the Kishke". - A Burns-themed pub sing follows the Supper. Brought to you by the Boston Serious Burns Unit of www.bostonsongsessions.org

Armory Pub Sing - 2nd Thursday

Center for the Arts at the Armory

Based on a traditional English pub sing, but with a bit of an American flavor, this session meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month, and is open to all singers who want to join in. Pub singing emphasizes spontaneity, rich harmonies, and energetic joy. But, most of all, it emphasizes ***GROUP PARTICIPATION***! We're looking for songs that allow everyone to join in, rather than solo performances that reduce everyone but the leader to the role of passive observer. We love the fine old drinking songs and know plenty of sea chanteys and chorus songs from the British Isles and New England. But pretty much anything goes, as long as it encourages everyone to participate. Bring a song to share, or just join in on the choruses. Start time for the singing is 7 PM, but many arrive early to have dinner. We'll be in the café, where they have soup, sandwiches, and desserts, as well as wine, cider, and a nice variety of bottled beers. Getting there: http://artsatthearmory.org/about/getting-here/ The Café: http://artsatthearmory.org/cafe/ **IMPORTANT NOTE**: This sing is not solely a Meetup group event, and takes place even if nobody from Meetup says they are attending.
