Come and hike the first of 5 hikes along the little gunpowder falls river that I will be hosting this Spring. Catch all the hikes and see the entire 23 miles of trails stretching from 95 to Pleasantville Rd.
Anyone who finishes all 5 hikes this season will get a special award. What is it? You'll have to do all 5 to learn! Or find the only person who finished last year's. :)
This will be a loop hike between 5 and 6 miles total length. We'll head out on the South side of the river, cross at Pleasantville Road and return on the North side.
There are many hills around[masked] feet tall. There are about 3 or 4 total stream crossing. Terrain is rocks, roots, mud and mostly hard packed trail.
There are some old bridge abutments and abandoned houses we can explore around. There's also interesting areas that were carved out of the hills for old train tracks. Oh, and many gorgeous views of the river.
This is one of my favorite trails in the area.
We will take a more relaxed pace around 2-2.5 mph and we'll stop about every half to one mile so the group stays close together.
Please bring plenty of water. 2 Liters are recommended. Also bring snacks if you get hungry easily.
We will step off at 2:15PM. The standard 15 minute grace period.
Dogs are welcome on this hike but they must be well behaved and on lead at all times.
Long hiking pants are highly recommended! Sneakers can work but hiking shoes or boots are recommended.
We'll probably grab an early dinner at a local restaurant - group decides!
