This is hike #12 of 18 in the Gunpowder Falls State Park system. Talk with Wayne if you want to do the park completion challenge. You need to sign up through Great Outdoorsy People of MD or the Gunpowder Park Meetup Groups to do the challenge.
Please bring water, a head lamp, a good attitude and fun stories and conversation to share on a lovely evening hike!
!!!! YOU MUST BRING A HEADLAMP !!!! My agreement with the park to be on the trails at night requires all members have adequate lighting, preferably a head lamp.
This hike will finish in the dark. Cell phone lights are not bright enough and if that's all you bring, I may have to send you home unless others have spare lights they can share. Flashlights are also not preferred since holding a flashlight increases the chances of tripping. Something about having a hand occupied throwing off balance but I've seen't it! :)
We will probably grab dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant after the hike.
This will be a loop hike about 4.8 miles total length. There are multiple hill climbs and a few small stream crossings. I would call this a moderate difficulty hike.
Please meet near the beach at the parking area on Guyton Road about 500 feet east of the iron bridge.
Terrain is rocks, roots, mud and mostly hard packed trail.
Please bring plenty of water. Also bring snacks if you get hungry easily.
We will step off at 6:00PM. The standard 15 minute grace period.
Dogs are welcome on this hike but they must be well behaved and on lead at all times.
Long hiking pants are highly recommended! Sneakers can work but hiking shoes or boots are recommended.

Covid and general disclaimers....
A quick reminder that this is my hobby, I am doing this for fun and to socialize, get exercise, be in nature and meet cool new people. Please set your expectations and if you are expecting no risk and professionally run events, this may not be a good fit for you. I want to have fun and share my passion for the outdoors and I want you all to enjoy yourselves too. No bad attitudes please. :)
As with all our events please remember that you are responsible for your own safety. There are the typical risks for any outdoor event plus we are in a pandemic. I cannot eliminate all risk for those who attend this event and you must take responsibility for yourself but I will do my best to use common sense best practices to try and minimize our risks.
If you have recent symptoms of covid or any other respiratory illness or been in close proximity to those who have please do NOT come to this event.
