FREE PHOTOPILLS LEARNING SESSION WITH RAFAEL PONS AND NIGHT SHOOT-AND-TALK WITH HAROLD DAVIS
http://farm1.staticflickr.com/132/317481235_89391fed4a_m.jpg
Come join Harold and Rafael, the co-founder of PhotoPills (http://www.photopills.com/). Rafael is visiting us from the beautiful Balearic Islands in Spain, and will show us the ins-and-outs of PhotoPills, possibly the best photographic planning software in the world.
Following the session with Rafael, we will photograph the Port of Oakland, one of the busiest ports on the west coast, at night. Photographic subjects include container ships, the inner harbor, the lights of San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge (through and under the Bay Bridge span, tugboats, cranes, reflections in the water, and more). Harold will be available on an informal basis for socializing and talk about photography as we gather around our tripods!

This free event begins in the early evening (6PM) with an informal presentation by Rafael who will answer all your questions about PhotoPills and photographic planning, and continues through sunset--sunset occurs at 6:53PM--into darkness.
Bring your camera, tripod, and remote release and prepare to shoot the bizarre structures of Port Oakland and talk photography. If you don't already have PhotoPills, it can be downloaded from the App Store or from Google Play.
We will meet at the Ronald Dellums observation structure. To get there, find Oakland's Middle Harbor Shoreline Park.
Important!! The access gate closes at 8PM. So plan to arrive before then. Cars can leave whenever they like via a one-way gate, but they cannot enter after 8PM.
Once within Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, use the lot adjacent to the gate, and walk to the southwest beside the water to the Ronald Dellums observation structure (about 1/4 of a mile).
Note: There will be no classroom instruction. This is not a workshop. Rafael will introduce you to PhotoPills, and if you already work with it help you get the most out of some of the finer points. Harold is happy to share his experience photographer-to-photographer. Come expecting a great time, but do not expect a workshop.
Rain cancels. Please dress warmly in layers, wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and bring a headlamp so you can safely return to your car after dark, water, and a snack or a powerbar.
