1. Pavel Smirnov. Introduction to FHIR and new business opportunities that FHIR has created.

Pavel is a FHIR trailblazer and the CEO of Health Samurai, a company that developed Aidbox, a FHIR backend that makes it easy to build enterprise healthcare applications.

Pavel will introduce the audience to the FHIR standard and share his insights on new business opportunities created by the FHIR standard.

2. "A Real-World FHIRey Experience", Vivek Kaliraman, Founder of The Handoff Company

A step-by-step walkthrough on the ups and downs in the implementation of a SMART on FHIR integration between an EMR at a hospital and Caringly, a patient handoff solution for nurses developed The Handoff Company.

Vivek Kaliraman is the Co-Founder of The Handoff Company, a digital health startup based in Los Angeles. Mr. Shakir is a recognized industry expert in healthcare information management. His information technology experience spans more than four decades, including 40+ years in healthcare. His professional experience includes the development of enterprise information
architectures, data warehouses/business intelligence applications, systems integration solutions, and expertise in electronic data interchange standards.

National Center for Health Statistics is transitioning to use the HL7 FHIR standard for Vital Records Death Reporting. This presentation will detail the project from inception to the current state. Covering topics such as the project scope and objectives, rationale for adopting FHIR as
the information exchange format, authoring of the VRDR FHIR IG STU, and pilot implementations in six US states and jurisdictions.
