3 day intermediate backpack to Big Pine Lakes.
We will make our way from Glacier Lodge to First Lake, Second Lake, camping out at Third Lake. See the complete itinerary below but a couple of main points are:
To be put on the "going list" join the waiting list and I will send you payment instructions. As soon as I receive payment I will add you to the "going" list. The permit fee is $5.50 by check, $5.97 via Paypal This is a backpack trip, not a day hike. We will be hiking 5-6 miles on the first day with over 3000 ft of elevation gain and camping at an elevation of over 10000 ft. Each hiker is solely responsible for all of their own equipment, food, bear canister, water processing and personal sanitation equipment. If I have not backpacked with you before, please answer the questions. Bear canisters can be rented from the Eastern Sierra InterAgency Visitor Center for $2.50/day with a $80.00 deposit... (cheaper than REI)
Friday 8/9
Meet at 9:30 am at the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitor's Center in Lone Pine, CA. The center is on the right just as you enter Lone Pine heading north at the junction of route 136 and across from the Mt. Whitney Golf Course.
Hiking Itinerary:
Friday 8/9 Glacier Lodge to Third Lake – 5-6 miles starting at 7200 ft and climbing to just over 10,350 ft.

Saturday 8/10 We have the option of getting up early in the morning and hiking up to Sam Mack meadow (11300 ft) . When we get back from Sam Mack Meadow, we can explore the higher lakes; Fourth, Sixth, and Seventh Lakes. ( and Fifth Lake, which is on a side trail).
Sunday 8/11 We can get up early and hike to the higher lakes if we want but we should be ready to hike back to Glacier Lodge by about 10am. When we get back to the cars we can backtrack to Bishop a little and enjoy lunch at a great Mexican Restaurant (and Schat's Bakery!).
Total: 16 miles round trip

ABILITY LEVEL: Intermidiate. These are merely descriptions of the trip, not a recommendation nor any assurance that it is suitable for your skill level.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
These are generic instructions but most will apply even though this is a 3 day backpack. By RSVP'ing "Attending" you are asserting that you have the equipment, the ability to hike at an altitude of over 10,000 feet, and have read the ENTIRE posting.

Select hikes/events at your ability level or below

Bring all of your meals and any extra high-energy snacks

Although there will be water along the way, you will be responsible for any water filtering or processing that you may deam necessary.

Bring a personal first aid kit, flashlight/head light, and whistle

Wear appropriate hiking boots/shoes with traction - Trails are steep and rocky

Wear and bring hat, sunscreen and appropriate attire/gear based on terrain and weather conditions

NO HIKER LEFT BEHIND BUDDY SYSTEM - Select another hiker as a buddy and to check-in with each other and report any problems to Hike Organizer. Do not leave a fellow hiker alone or unaccompanied on the trail.
Each participant in this backpacking trip must realize that they are responsible for their own safety while engaging in this activity. We will always strive to stay together but accidents can happen and each participant must be self-sufficient.
