Bear Canyon ~6 miles and 6,000' up to Baldy, followed by another ~13 miles on the Devil's Backbone Trail, past Baldy Notch into the Cucamonga Wilderness. There we'll pass over 1 T (Thunder) and hike past the other 2 T's (Telegraph and Timber), ultimately descending to Icehouse Canyon for a total of ~19 miles and ~8,000' elevation gain.
I don't plan to bag Telegraph or Timber, but you are free to do so - each spur trail is 1/2 mile r/t.
Let's meet at 7am at Icehouse Canyon trailhead.
An Adventure Pass is required to park there. We'll leave as many cars as possible there, and then shuttle back to Baldy Village to begin our hike.
NOTE: This is an ADVANCED hike, and the plan is to hike at a relatively brisk pace. Recent advanced hike experience (15+ miles with significant elevation gain) is strongly recommended. I estimate the hike will take ~9 hours total. We'll make stops at Baldy summit, the ski lodge (water source), and *maybe* Icehouse saddle.
Please be prepared to hike solo if others in the group are maintaining a faster pace (i.e., there will be no sweeps for stragglers and no 1-hour rest stops - at least not for me!). Basically, you are responsible for yourself; know your limits, and pack accordingly (e.g., 4 liters water, sunscreen, food, layers, etc).
