At least once a month at HoustonPhotowalks.com, we drum up some crazy idea for a place to photograph and practice our photo techniques. We're a fun bunch, no pressure, no stress. Come ready to learn and share what you know among other photographers.

This group is perfect for new camera owners, novice hobby photographers, and old dogs that have been shooting photos for a long time.
Our group has 3 main principles that guide our way:
• Fun and Safe (we want you to have a great time, and not die).
• Honor the amateur photography clubs that came before us. Their enthusiastic interest in photography paved the way for the technology evolution that allows us to capture light today.
• Education, of ourselves, each other and the community. We learn our best techniques from each other, and we teach the community that photographers aren't jerks, criminals or terrorists.

Class: Updating Your Digital Darkroom (the remix)
·OnlineOnlineOver the past couple of months, several HPW members have asked questions about choosing the right computer for photo editing—including how much RAM and SSD storage they need, what type of display to look for, and other important considerations. That’s exactly what this class is designed to help answer!
We last offered this class a little over five years ago. Back then, Windows 11 had just been announced, Apple was in its second year of transitioning from Intel processors to its own Apple-designed silicon chips, and most computers could comfortably run Lightroom and Photoshop with 16 GB of RAM.
Fast-forward to today, and things have changed just a teensy-weensy bit... 😁
We’ll cut through the techno-babble and focus on making the technical stuff easier to understand, helping you make informed decisions when choosing or upgrading your digital darkroom equipment.
And what do we mean by digital darkroom? It encompasses everything involved in your photo-editing setup—from your computer’s RAM and storage capacity to your monitor’s characteristics and the software you use.
In this class, we’ll explore these topics while taking into account the growing use of AI in editing software and its increasing hardware demands, along with the latest updates to many of the software tools we use to develop our RAW images. We’ll wrap things up with a Q&A session so you can get answers to your specific questions.
The class will be held via Zoom and recorded, so you can participate from the comfort of your own home.

Photowalk: George Ranch Frontier Days
The George Ranch, 10215 FM 762 Rd, Richmond, TX 77469, USA, Richmond, TX, USStep back into Texas history with us for a day of photography at Frontier Days at George Ranch! We’ll have plenty of chances to photograph costumed interpreters, historic buildings, cowboys, demonstrations, reenactments, animals, and details from life on the Texas frontier.

EVENT DESCRIPTION
Frontier Days is George Ranch’s annual fall living-history festival, bringing more than 100 years of Texas history to life. The day includes cattle-working demonstrations, historic home tours, battle reenactments, games, vendors, food trucks, music, entertainment, and hands-on activities.
We usually see people in period clothing and military uniforms along with blacksmith demonstrations, cowboy activities, historic homes, and ranch animals.
The George Ranch tells the story of generations of Texas ranch life through historic homes and working ranch settings, giving us a wide variety of backgrounds and subjects to explore.
All skill levels are welcome, and you can bring anything from a smartphone to your favorite handheld camera.Frontier Days is a busy event with lots happening throughout the property, so come ready to explore, watch for interesting moments, and enjoy a day of photography with the group.
IMPORTANT INFO
- Cameras must be handheld and for personal use.
- No tripods or bulky photography equipment that could get in the way of other visitors.
- George Ranch does not allow flash photography inside the Victorian Mansion or Ranch House.
PARKING
There is plenty of free parking on the property near the Visitor Center. Designated accessible parking is also available near the Visitor Center.
WHAT TO BRING
- Camera or smartphone
- A versatile walk-around lens
- Telephoto lens for cowboys, animals, and demonstrations
- Extra battery and memory card
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Weather-appropriate clothing
Please do not bring:
- Tripods
- Large lighting setups
- Bulky equipment that could block walkways or interfere with other guests
Keep your kit light and mobile. There should be plenty to photograph, and being able to move quickly between activities will be helpful.
PLEASE NOTE: They will allow HoustonPhotowalks members to attend and take personal pictures. They politely request we bring no lighting kits (light stands, strobes, etc), and that we only bring what we can carry (no tripods, rolling camera gear, etc). If you would like to do a modeling or portrait event here, they request you arrange to pay their commercial photography fees on a different day.

Photowalk: Houston Arcade Expo 2026
Houston Marriott Westchase, 2900 Briarpark Drive, Houston, TX, USSpend a Saturday photographing colorful arcade cabinets, vintage pinball machines, cosplay, and people enjoying their favorite games. Arrive when you like, explore at your own pace, and stay as long as you wish.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Houston Arcade Expo features hundreds of classic and modern pinball machines, coin-operated arcade games, penny arcades, and console games. Admission also includes free play, along with tournaments, vendors, live music, seminars, and other activities.
Look for glowing game screens, detailed cabinet art, shiny pinball parts, hands working the controls, and the expressions of players trying for a high score. The busy game floor should offer plenty of chances to practice low-light photography, detail shots, environmental portraits, and creative motion blur.
A cosplay costume contest is planned for around 4:30 PM on Saturday, adding another colorful photography opportunity.
All skill levels and camera types are welcome, including smartphones.
Purchase your admission in advance through the Houston Arcade Expo ticket page. Come for a few hours or make a full day—and night—of photographing the expo.
IMPORTANT INFO
- This is a non-grouping event. HoustonPhotowalks will not meet at a set time or location.
- No flash photography.
- Tripods are allowed during the morning and afternoon but are not allowed at night when its dark and people can trip.
- Admission must be purchased separately from the Houston Arcade Expo.
- Event activities and schedule times may change. Check the official expo schedule during your visit.
