What we’re about
At least once a month at HoustonPhotowalks.com, we drum up some crazy idea for a place to photograph and practice our photo techniques. We're a fun bunch, no pressure, no stress. Come ready to learn and share what you know among other photographers.
Check out our Member Discounts, Sponsors and other cool stuff on our Good Stuff page:
This group is perfect for new camera owners, novice hobby photographers, and old dogs that have been shooting photos for a long time.
Our group has 3 main principles that guide our way:
• Fun and Safe (we want you to have a great time, and not die).
• Honor the amateur photography clubs that came before us. Their enthusiastic interest in photography paved the way for the technology evolution that allows us to capture light today.
• Education, of ourselves, each other and the community. We learn our best techniques from each other, and we teach the community that photographers aren't jerks, criminals or terrorists.

This is the 15th Annual Worldwide Photowalk and the 13th that I've led personally.
Kemah Boardwalk is known for it’s daytime activity and great night photography opportunities, but it’s also a great place to photograph the sunrise. The sun rises over the water when you shoot East off the boardwalk.
Additionally, some of the restaurants and rides are lit up in the pre-dawn hours – which also makes for some high quality HDR opportunities.
The early morning boat activity creates some nice opportunities as well. The rest of the boardwalk and the surrounding area is good fodder for morning light.
Dawn is at 6:52 am and Sunrise is at 7:16am.Not open

## ABOUT THIS WALK
This is the 14th year of our Downtown At Night photowalk with HoustonPhotowalks, it was our very first event together! Those who have joined us yearly have a library of images showing how our beautiful city has changed over the years.
It’s that time of year again! Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photowalk is happening in October, and I will lead my annual Downtown at Night Photowalk. Hard to believe we’ve been doing this every year since 2009!
We will begin at the University of Houston – Downtown balcony to shoot the sun going down over the city skyline. We will also have an amazing vantage point of the i-10 and i-45 intersection, offering plenty of “light trails” shots along the highways. You will also have a straight shot down Travis Street to shoot cars as they pass under the streetlights.
Once the sun goes down, we will start walking along Main Street, cut over to Travis Street, and then back to Main Street, shooting the exciting places, people, and activities along the way. We will end our journey near Central Station Square, on Main Street.
Parking can be a challenge downtown, but I have a way to make it easy for you. Park close to a Metro Rail center downtown. I usually park near the Bell Street metro station (corner of Bell and Main Streets). There will be plenty of parking, then ride the rail NORTH up to the University of Houston. It’s a safer and more convenient way to park.
## WHAT TO WEAR/BRING/EXPECT
Wear good walking shoes and loose, comfortable clothing. There are a lot of very uneven walkways in downtown, especially near Market Square Park. So don’t wear heels!
I suggest bringing a good tripod since most of the photowalk will be after dark.
The type of lens to bring depends on what type of photography you like to do. I usually bring a long lens and a fast prime. Don’t bring your entire camera and lens collection. You will be miserable with the weight and won’t use most of what you bring.
## OTHER STUFF
Bring your favorite flavor of DEET or OFF! But bring the wipes rather than spray. Or spray at your car, not near people’s camera lenses; those dots are really hard to get off.
A small flashlight. Most of downtown is well-lit, but you might drop something in a dim area and need that bit of light.
Parking may cost a bit, and the rail will cost a couple of dollars, so bring your wallet.
If you are interested, I can do a night photography class at HoustonPhotowalks.com — just let me know if anyone is interested.
Weather info will be posted closer to the event date. Note, I run these events just like my HoustonPhotowalks.com club, it is a “rain or shine” kinda photography club. We get some AMAZING images when shooting wet streets. If it sprinkles or a massive thunderstorm rolls in, come anyway. We only cancel if the mayor says to evacuate the city.
## ROSTER INFORMATION
I don’t have the ability to add/remove/check for names on the roster, only the people at KelbyOne. If you are unsure if you are on the roster, log into the Kelby website to check. You can request a new password if you have lost yours.
The worldwidephotowalk.com website lets you attend one Worldwide Photowalk per email address. If yo using up to this event, and then click to attend a different event, the website will automatically remove you from this one.
