Photowalk: 5th Annual Hermann Park Conservancy Kite Festival
Details
LAST MINUTE DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone!
Since there is not a good place to meet for breakfast near the venue we will plan to have a picnic lunch at noon at the end of the event. You can either bring your meal with you or some cash to buy something to eat at the venue. I will scope out a spot Sunday morning and let you know at check in where we will plan to have our picnic. I will also post a comment in the meetup about that as well.
PLEASE NOTE: The venue is a somewhat large area and has no clear "entrance" and the mark on the map is the address of the venue which is NOT exactly where we will meet inside the venue (and I unfortunately cannot change that as the meeting spot does not have an exact street address) WE WILL MEET AT THE PIONEER MEMORIAL OBELISK at the top of the JONES REFLECTION POOL. If you don't know where that is spend a minute looking at the Hermann Park in google maps link FROM A DESKTOP COMPUTER. You will see it just west of Miller Outdoor Theater marked with a camera as it is an common place for people to search out for photos. PLEASE DO NOT RELY ON THE APPLE MAPS LINK FROM THE MOBILE MEETUP APP IT WILL TAKE YOU INSIDE THE ZOO!! (sorry guys I would fix it if I could but's that Meetup for you!!)
Remember parking may be very limited and unless you are coming in very early it is recommended that you use public transportation to get into the park. Take a look at the instructions below in the meetup description.
Let's hope for lots of wind like we had yesterday so we will really see those kites moving!!

• What we'll do
Experience the fifth annual Hermann Park Conservancy Kite Festival on Sunday, March 25!
On this day, thousands of Houstonians from every part of the city converge on Miller Hill to fly kites of all shapes and colors.
This is a FREE festival offering entertainment, interactive activities and crafts in the H-E-B Kids’ Zone, friendly kite flying, face painting, food trucks, and much more! It takes place on Miller Hill and the Jones Reflection Pool. This should be a great opportunity to photograph not only the colorful kites but also the surrounding areas of Hermann Park not to mention people, people and more people!!
While our event is from 9:45 the festival lasts until 5pm so if you have no pressing business plan to hang around awhile.
• What to bring
Camera with mid to telephoto range lens(es), sunscreen, comfortable shoes, money for food/drinks or anything else that might catch your fancy from the vendors.
• Important to know
THERE WILL BE VERY LIMITED PARKING IN THE PARK THAT DAY - most of which is reserved for volunteers and vendors. The organizers specifically warn that you should not drive to the park that day unless you come very early. Your best option is to ride the MetroRail in. The closest stop is the Hermann Park/Rice U Station on the Red Line. Just check https://www.ridemetro.org/Pages/Rail.aspx to decide best place to leave your car and hop on the train. If you wish to drive to the area consider parking at the Zoo, HMNS or in the Medical Center and walking over.
