Workshop: Overnight Light Painting in an Abandoned Hospital + Photowalk + Class

Yorktown Memorial Hospital was abandoned in the 1980's. Since then, it has been a spooky example of what happens to buildings when humans are no longer around. Filled with the dirt, peeled paint and ghosts of the past, the structure takes on a whole new life after the sun goes down and the hospital becomes pitch black.

Although they charge a good bit for staying overnight, the photography opportunities are well worth it!

This event includes a primer class on "Light Painting" (light painting with flashlights, strobe flashes, gels, etc), a small-town photowalk, a museum of early medical equipment, and an overnight stay in the Yorktown Memorial Hospital!

Photowalk price cover entry fee for overnight in the hospital, photowalk, museum donation, and the Introduction to Light Painting class.

We will CARAVAN to each stop, starting at Bucc-ee's in Katy. We will drive to Cuero, Texas (about 2 hours) to photowalk the main street and the Pharmacy and Medical Museum.

Then we will continue our drive to Yorktown. Once there you are welcome to photowalk the town or check into a hotel if you don't plan to stay all night. We will meet back up at 5D Steakhouse for dinner and light painting discussions at 4:30pm.

LOGISTICS:

Some people may prefer nicer accommodations than me, I'm probably going to just sleeping bag it in the hospital when I'm ready to sleep. There are two nearby hotels. Also, there are no bathroom facilities in the hospital, so having a nearby hotel room isn't a bad idea.

Note, because they only allow very small groups, this is a "photographers-only" event. No guests please.

12 Noon: The Pharmacy and Medical Museum of Texas ( 114 E Main St, Cuero, TX 77954 ), and some Downtown Cuero photowalking.

Yorktown is about 30 minutes away from Cuero.

When you arrive in Yorktown, spend some time photowalking downtown, checking into your hotel (if you get one), and resting up for the overnight events. I suggest starting at Yorktown City Hall (119 E Main St, Yorktown, TX 78164).

If you want to skip the Pharmacy Museum and Cuero, Texas photowalk, just meet us at the Light Painting class at 4:30pm.
