Photowalk: Heritage Village in Woodville, Texas
Details
The Village, Museum Store, Pickett House, and Whitmeyer Library are owned and operated by the Tyler County Heritage Society, a non-profit organization with members from all parts of the country interested in preserving the East Texas Heritage.
The museum and outdoor area has about 15 historic buildings filled with furniture, working tools, and artifacts from early Texas historic days
February is usually a slow time for the museum and heritage grounds, so we will get to enjoy the entire area without too many additional extra people getting in our shots.
There is a lot of building texture, rust, historical artifacts, and interesting buildings to explore.
You can read more about the buildings and the location on their home page: https://www.heritage-village.org/
What to Bring:
Most areas are up-close, so no need for long telephoto lenses. Some of the buildings aren't well lit, so a "fast" lens for those few places is a good idea. Tripods and flash are fine outdoors, but keep them collapsed when inside the store, museum, and restaurant.
Depending on the weather, consider wearing warm clothing and absolutely wear close-toed shoes. The "road" in the heritage area is a traditional dirt road, so if there's rain in the forecast, keep that in mind for your shoes.
Since this event is limited in size, please don't bring guests for this event, photo friends/members only, please. If this event fills up or you want to bring family, have a look at their website for other days and times.
Or you can wait about a week later and go with the other photography clubs that copy our events.
As usual, we will collect fees in advance so you won't have to wait in line to pay at the door. We will all go in as a group, so let's meet in the parking lot at 8:45 sharp and all go in when they open. Once the tour starts, we won't be able to go back outside to retrieve anyone who arrives late.
DIRECTIONS INFO:
The sign is kinda hidden when driving from Houston, I usually miss it and have to do a U-turn. Take US Hwy 190 from Houston toward Woodville. If you make it to Woodville downtown, you went too far. The official address is 157 Private Road 6000, Woodville, Texas. Here's a google map to the location as a help/guide:
COVID:
Currently, they don't have any specific requirements, but their website says they reserve to make changes at any time. Probably a "bring a mask just in case" situation. Most of the areas of interest are outdoors.
