Photowalk: Doc Porter Museum of Telephone History
Details
Note: Krys Westfield set up this very cool photowalk for us! Be sure and give her a huge thanks!
HoustonPhotowalks is getting a private tour of a wire-age telephone museum. Yes, a whole museum devoted to one of our earliest forms of electronic communication.
The Doc Porter Museum of Telephone History contains wire-age telephones dating from 1876 to the present. They have a Braille switchboard that was used by the Houston Lighthouse for the Blind, as well as a collection of teletypes, switching gear, old wooden and metal phone booths, cables, insulators and inside and outside repair equipment. There's also advertisements and signs, and you can learn about the history of the payphone and dialtones and more! To learn more about the museum, click here (http://www.houstontelephonemuseum.com/). This should be a fascinating photowalk!
Sadly, the museum's location has been sold out from under them, and they have no location set to move their collection. This may be your last chance to visit this museum and photograph and view all of these interesting and unusual historical telecommunications devices. Your $10 ticket cost for this event will be donated to the museum, as they are desperately in need of the public's help.
Our arrival time of 9:45 is very firm. The museum is located in a building that is normally locked on weekends. Neither myself, nor the tour guide will be running to the door every few minutes to let folks in. We will do a roll-call and instructions beforehand, and start the tour promptly at 10:00 AM. If you aren't at the building on time, you will be locked out - it's on time or noshow.
Event Payment Information:
HoustonPhotowalks.com will be donating to the museum on your behalf. Entry price is $10 per person. Your $10 payment is required within 24 hours of signing up to the event! This allows you to reserve space, but then come back to pay when it's convenient.
Have a question? See our Event Payment and RSVP policy (http://www.houstonphotowalks.com/pages/RSVP_Policy_for_Paid_Events/)! Its an easy read.
RSVP changes with less than 24 hour's notice before the event are considered a no-show. Please consider payment as a "donation" to this museum; refunds will be offered when requested and only prior to the event.
