We do not have anyone available to host this event, but we hate to see orphans for the holidays. So for those who can't make it home for Christmas you can all meet up and enjoy some holiday time together. Here's what we suggest:

To help you find each other, wear RED. (Can someone volunteer to bring our signature blue and purple balloons and/or lead this hike?) Use the key phrase, "Are you here to MEETUP for the hike?"

Enjoy Christmas Day with some fresh air, exercise, scenic vistas, SF history and culture! Wear your tennies or other comfortable walking shoes and bring layers for unpredictable SF weather. Bring water and snacks and don't forget your camera.

Estimated total distance round trip is 4 miles. Moderate hike - it's not tough terrane but there are lots of stairs.

The meeting point is 2:00pm sharp at the Park Chalet / Visitor's Center (1000 Great Highway). * This is a NON-HOSTED event * To find each other: meet in front (outside) the Visitor Center, wear RED and ask "Are you here for the MEETUP hike?" Use the bathrooms here if you need to. Then leave promptly at 2:15pm. Here's the suggested sites/path:

Sutro Heights Park - enter the hiking path on Balboa St (at La Playa St.) and go up 2 flights of stairs. There are several scene views from this park.

Sutro Baths, Point Lobos Ave, San Francisco, CA 94121. If needed, make a bathroom stop at this visitor center. Then hike (climb the stairs) down to the ruins. Don't forget to visit the cave. Then climb the ruins. Optionally, climb down to the beach.

Lands End Labyrinth, Lands End Trail, San Francisco, CA 94121. Follow the marked trail. When you get close to Lands End, take a detour to see the rock park. Then continue to the labyrinth. NOTE: signs are not well marked so you'll want to ask other hikers for directions to the rock park and the labyrinth.

Start heading back to the Park Chalet around 4:15pm and walk along Ocean Beach. Watch the sunset (at 4:50pm). Afterwards, go to the Park Chalet (ground floor) for drinks/eats.

Parking and Transportation: There is a parking lot right there in front of the beach; drive slow because there's always people coming and leaving. If full, you can park inside Golden Gate Park on the streets (on John F Kennedy Dr. near the windmill) or on Fulton Street.

For public transportation: the 5 (Fulton) Muni bus (from downtown SF) will take you right to Ocean Beach (last stop; at the Safeway).
