HOOKED

We figured we'd start off the book club with something short and tactical. This book is from the author of http://nirandfar.com . Here's the description from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Hooked-Guide-Building-Habit-Forming-Products/dp/1494277530/):

This book introduces readers to the "Hook Model," a four steps process companies use to build customer habits. Through consecutive hook cycles, successful products reach their ultimate goal of bringing users back repeatedly -- without depending on costly advertising or aggressive messaging.

Hooked is a guide to building products people can't put down. Written for product managers, designers, marketers, startup founders, and people eager to learn more about the things that control our behaviors, this book gives readers:

• Practical insights to create user habits that stick.

• Actionable steps for building products people love.

• Behavioral techniques used by Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and other habit-forming products.

WHY $3

The idea behind the nominal fee is to make sure that folks reserve a limited spot with the intention of showing up. The UX book club (https://www.meetup.com/UXChicago/) has experimented with using a nominal fee and it helped to reduce no-shows. This is why refunds aren't issued. :)

NEXT BOOK

The book for the next meetup will be more ambitious. We'll be reading, "Cognitive Psychology and Its Implications (http://www.amazon.com/Cognitive-Psychology-Implications-John-Anderson/dp/1429219483)" It's a textbook, so it's a little pricey. We're going to break up the reading into two meetings so that we can have the time to delve into the content.
