The Hyperledger Foundation is an open source collaborative effort hosted by the Linux Foundation and created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies. Participation is open to all.

Hyperledger Meetup groups have an informal relationship with Hyperledger, and make up a key part of the Hyperledger ecosystem. Participation in a Hyperledger Meetup group is open to anyone--employees of a Hyperledger member company, Hyperledger contributors and developers, and people just passionate about blockchain technology.

Hyperledger Fabric and consortium blockchain challenges

Bringing a Hyperledger Fabric network up an running in a complex multi-customer environment is not without challenges. In this presentation, we will summarize some of the problems, issues, misconceptions and challenges that might arise, including but not limited to:

- The place of agile methodologies in blockchain development
- Designing cryptography versus business logic
- Fabric performance, privacy
- Multiparty enterprise operation, like multiorganisational ticket handling, monitoring, disaster recovery or cryptographic materials.

The presentation acts more as a problem statement summarizing mostly the possible problems and challenges of the field, without going into the details of specific solutions or tools. We hope that further active community contribution either during the meetup or as subsequent meetups will fill the white spaces.

Byzantine Fault Tolerance Consensus for Blockchains and Hyperledger Fabric

In this talk, we will briefly review the academic models for BFT protocols and analyze the commonly deployed BFT consensus protocols for blockchains such as Ethereum.

We will then compare several BFT protocols that could be used for Hyperledger Fabric and discuss the implementations details regarding BDLS that could be integrated into Hyperledger Fabric.

Bios of speakers:

Dr. Yongge Wang is a professor at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Wang has published extensively on research topics including algorithmic information theory, cryptography, and post-quantum security. Dr. Wang has proved several classical results in modern effective randomness research which are included as the fundamental theorems in most Algorithmic Information Theory graduate textbooks. Dr. Wang is the holder of three patents and the inventor of two IEEE 1363 standardized techniques (remote password based authentication protocol SRP5 and identity based authentication protocol WANG-KE). Dr. Wang is one of the designers for fundamental W3C and IETF XML security techniques such as XMLENC and XMLDSig syntax. These standards are the starting point for all XML related security techniques. Dr. Wang played important roles in developing research and education programs at UNC Charlotte. Recently, Dr. Wang has been working on fully homomorphic encryption, garbled computation techniques, and applied these techniques to achieve privacy preserving computation in the cloud. Dr. Wang has designed quantum resistant public key encryption techniques RLCE (http://quantumca.org) and developed the software package readily to be integrated into current Internet infrastructure. Dr. Wang has developed the 4-step UNCC patented BDLS Byzantine Fault Tolerance protocol for blockchains. Dr. Wang is currently an academic advisor for the Cryptic Labs http://crypticlabs.org that builds a unique community of illustrious cryptography and security advisors, researchers and innovative blockchain entrepreneurs who work on decentralize and distributed trust.

Ahmed Alsalih is a Sr. Software Engineer and Tech-Lead at AholdDelhaize. Also a Ph.D. student at UNCC, working under Dr. Wang's supervision. I have been in the tech industry since the beginning of the new millennium. I enjoy modernizing legacy systems and delivering software.

How to Build Web-Based Distributed Applications (DApps) on Hyperledger Fabric

Jim Sullivan from The Blockchain Academy leads an online workshop about using the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and NodeJS to build web-based distributed applications (DApps) on Hyperledger Fabric. Use your Solidity skills and the EVM tools to develop robust DApps on Hyperledger Fabric.
