We'll discuss our new perception technologies using Velodyne 3-D LiDAR sensor for self-driving cars with the focus on low complexity real-time Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM). Velodyne sensors provide a 3D model of the world around the vehicle. Our proprietary technology provides the accurate distance and reflectivity measurements at highway speeds as well as very complex urban environments. Velodyne sensors provide highest performance and range in a compact and competitive package for enabling advanced level 4 and level 5 autonomous vehicles. Also in addition to providing calibrated reflectivity and 3D point cloud data, our next generation technology allows the real-time processing of point clouds for precise simultaneous localization and mapping, segmentation, object tracking and classification within the environment. Our smart sensor edge computing paves the way to affordable consumer self-driving cars by reducing the need for expensive computing such as liquid-cooled large computing complexes in the trunks of the autonomous vehicles.
