Virtual Tasting with Legendary Vintner Emeritus Richard Sanford

Details

The history of Santa Barbara wine has to begin with Richard Sanford—a legend and pioneer.

Today, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA is renown around the world as one of the top regions for pinot noir. Richard Sanford saw the potential for the varietal here and planted the first vineyard with then-partner Michael Benedict. He is the ONLY Santa Barbara vintner—and one of just 44 winemakers world-wide—to be inducted into the Vintners Hall of Fame. He is one of the shining stars of Santa Barbara County wine making and has been making some of the most highly-regarded pinot for almost 50 years. Join in a conversation with one of the most important vintners while he leads us through four delicious wines from Alma Rosa (special discount of up to $52 for Inside Wine SB).

Our tasting menu:
2019 Alma Rosa Grenache Rosé: New release!
This gorgeous apricot colored rosé has tantalizing notes of watermelon and wet stones that lead to subtle notes of tangerine and hints of hibiscus. This vivid, bright wine delivers wild strawberry and rose petal flavors, a long finish and salinity on the back of the palette that invites another sip.

2018 Alma Rosa La Encantada Blanc:
Shimmers gold in the glass while offering up refreshing notes of jasmine, wet stone, and honey. Medium-bodied with beautiful acidity, this wine’s flavors of lime, lemon and pear are married to a scintillating structure and a minerally finish. Only 236 cases produced.

2017 Alma Rosa El Jabali Pinot Noir: 94 Points! - Wine Enthusiast
Soars from the glass with intense aromas of fully ripened raspberries, forest floor, and French roast. Further notes of white pepper and roast game offer a complex impression that is characteristic of these 34-year-old vines.

2017 Alma Rosa Rancho La Vina Pinot Noir:
Classic racy acidity that has come to characterize this phenomenal vineyard. Light tannins balance the zesty acids and support bright red fruits, maraschino cherries, and haunting suggestions of Mediterranean herbs.
