Tercero Wines Winemaker - Virtual Tasting - NEW options

Details

Dear Friends,

Order your wines today, Tuesday the 27th to pick up your order at my house. You can arrange your own purchase and to pick up from Tercero Wines in Los Alamos by contacting them at: 805- 245- 9584. All wines have to be purchased directly through Tercero Wines, I can only pick them up, not sell them.

Let's widen our wine knowledge to the classic Rhone varietals Carignane, Mourvedre and Grenache Blanc. Our tasting will include crisp Grenache Rosé perfect for spring sipping!

The small-lot, handcrafted wines of Tercero Wines in Los Alamos cover a wide spectrum of Rhone varietals--juicy reds individual bottlings and blends of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignane and Cinsault--to luscious whites that range from crisp and refreshing to weighty. The juice is sourced from top local vineyards like Larner and Watch Hill.

Winemaker Larry Schaffer has selected 4 bottles for an overview of his wine style. Drawing on his Masters Degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis, experience at Fess Parker Winery and his own Tercero Wines--plus the gift of gab--Larry will lead us on a very informative and delicious tasting.

2016 Tercero Grenache Blanc: A blend of two different sites here in the Santa Ynez Valley - each lot was whole cluster pressed, and then fermented and aged on their lees for 16 months in older French oak barrels, unracked until just before bottling. The extra time in oak on their lees definitely added to more body in the wine but did not detract from the freshness of the wine whatsoever. Drinking great but will age beautifully as well. Usual retail $33.

2020 Tercero Mourvedre Rose: The grapes from Camp 4 Vineyard were brought in early in the day, foot stomped by Larry, left on their skins for an hour, pressed, and then fermented at cooler temperatures in a stainless tank for about 4 weeks; it was then aged in a combo of stainless steel and older oak for a short time before being bottled in early February; drinking beautifully now, this rose will continue to evolve and 'improve' for the next few years . . . seriously. Usual retail $30.

2017 Tercero Carignane: My second release of this lesser known Rhone variety, originally from Spain, and one that has traditionally been a blending variety. The grapes were picked earlier than most winemakers do - why? I wanted to show off the 'earthier' and more 'rustic' nature of this variety - and I think I truly did just that! 100% whole cluster, foot stomped by Larry, fermented with their stems, pressed and then aged for 16 months in older French oak barrels. Buy it, pour it and enjoy it with a variety of foods - or on its own. Usual retail $38.

2014 Tercero Mourvedre - SBC: I was able to secure Mourvedre from the Larner Vineyard in Ballard Canyon, Zaca Mesa Vineyard in Los Olivos and Camp 4 Vineyard in Santa Ynez. Each adds something unique to the blend, adding structure, fruit and complexity along the way. Each was 100% whole cluster foot stomped, fermented with their stems, pressed and then aged separately for 34 months in older French oak barrels, left unracked until blending just before bottling. This blend offers the perfect balance of fruit and 'earth', of lively acidity but noticeable tannin structure, and of pure enjoyment! Usual retail $44.
