New Lynn & Surrounds

Details
Please note the start time of 6.30, and bring a headlamp or torch.
A group of people from out west decided that we would like a shorter walk during the week to increase our fitness level for our longer weekend walks. These walks will be mainly in West Auckland, but once in a while may be in other areas of Auckland.
Starting at Olympic Park in New Lynn, this walk will take us through the suburban streets of New Lynn. There are some hills involved going up Golf Road. We will pass the West Lynn Gardens on the way, with the butterfly house containing scores of monarch butterflies at the right time of the year. Near the end of the walk the route winds through a small wetlands area and then past Ambrico Kiln. This is the only kiln remaining from the heyday of ceramic and brickmaking in New Lynn. A route past the new railway station will take us back to the park.
Meeting Point: Olympic Park carpark, Portage Road entrance, New Lynn (behind the BP station)
Distance: Approximately 7km (loop)
Duration: 1.5 hours depending on walking pace
Difficulty: A relatively easy walk on urban streets. There will be some hills. Good walking fitness is required as we will walk at a reasonable pace.
What to wear and bring: Good walking shoes, water, warm jumper and wet weather gear, torch / headlamp
Group members have indicated that they like to walk in a smaller group with a preferred maximum of 25. Therefore the limit on our walks will remain at 25. Thank you for your understanding :-)
We will leave on time in fairness to the whole group.
