About us
The mission of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) is to lead Colorado to an energy efficient and renewable energy economy through education, policy advancement, and economic development.
The Jefferson County chapter of CRES serves all of Jefferson County in Colorado, including Golden and the Denver suburbs. JCRES works to increase awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We host meetings and events to help members and the public connect with the ideas and people that make renewable energy and energy efficiency happen.

Solar Peaks & Windy Nights: Making Energy Use Match Clean Supply
Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 W. 32nd Ave., 1 mi west of 32nd & Youngfield (Applewood), Golden, CO, USIn-person and live streaming (click this link)
The timing of our energy use is becoming just as important as how much energy we use. As Colorado’s electricity mix shifts throughout the day, shifting electricity demand – whether for home appliances, heating and cooling, or charging electric vehicles – can significantly reduce emissions, lower energy costs, and make better use of renewable energy already on the grid. This talk explores why it matters when we use electricity matters, how cleaner hours vary throughout the day, and what it means for households, businesses, and any energy user. By aligning flexible energy uses with periods of abundant wind and solar, Colorado can cut carbon pollution and ease strain on the grid. Tools like the ChargeBug app provide real‑time estimates of how clean the grid is, along with week‑ahead forecasts that help people plan energy use for the lowest‑emission hours and make simple, climate‑friendly choices about when to plug in or power up.Please plan to stay for a reception with food, drinks, and conversations afterwards. Solar deployment is expanding rapidly across the U.S. and solar module technology has evolved rapidly in the last decade. Solar module researchers from the National Lab of the Rockies (prev. NREL) will talk through recent changes to PV module composition, end-of-life options, and mythbust common misconceptions. Silvana Ovaitt and Heather Mirletz will offer you a shiny new understanding of the materials and energy costs to manufacture them and present the current state of solar module sustainability. Bring your questions! Please plan to stay for a reception with food, drinks, and conversations afterwards. This event is FREE, but you're welcome to put a donation in the basket.
