James River Camera Club

Just before the last predicted snow apocalypse, we held a photo shoot with models at the studio rented by Jess Wakefield in Williamsburg. The event went off beautifully thanks to Jess's great planning. I think all the members who attended had a great time and learned a few things about studio portrait photography.

One of the attendees suggested it would cap off the event to take a look at the photographs taken and figure out what we learned, what we did well, and what can be improved. That is the intent of this meeting.

You can and should attend even if you couldn't make it to the photoshoot. This will be a chance for all of us to take a critical look at our work and discuss how to become better photographers. As usual, this isn't a blood-letting critique but rather a chance for all of us to get better and pass along what we learned.

My basic idea is that the photographer can give an overview of what the intention of the shot was, why choices were made, and where improvements could be made. We can then add input to help the photographer and others who can gain from the discussion.

By the way, Temple Baptist Church will be having its annual Blood Drive on April 2nd and they will be using the Social Hall (where we normally meet) as the location. So, we will be meeting in a classroom on the church grounds. From the parking lot, the classroom will be in the building to your right (across the playground from the Social Hall.)

This can be an excellent opportunity for club growth and I look forward to seeing you there.

Our May-June Photo Challenge is Nature! Your choice of what you want to do. Whether it’s wildlife, landscapes, trees, meadows, waterfalls, or oceans, the subject is up to you. All we need is your creativity and fun.
Get out and take some photos. We will put up a Smugmug gallery for you to upload your images. At the July meeting, we can take a look at the photos and you can have a mini-showing.

You can do a theme or just a collection of images you like. Just have fun.

Remember: This is just a placeholder for a two-month period where we ask you to make an effort to get some nature shots to share with other members. This is a good opportunity to expand your portfolio and get some tips from other members.
