What we’re about
JRCC was formed in 1945 and is one of the oldest, continuing photography clubs in Virginia. Our mission is to offer programs and activities of interest to the beginning photographer as well as the professional. We have a number of professionals in our membership who contribute exceptional programs frequently for our membership and guests. We aspire to advance the art and craft of photography aesthetically and technically for all who wish to participate.
Note: Any photograph submitted to the club and / or posted by member, the JRCC retains the right to exhibit these photos only for the purpose these were submitted.
If you want to Join James River Camera Club just show up at any meetup posted and you can meet folks and decide if you would like it. We try to meet in person each month. Of course the Pandemic messed us up a bit and we did and still do some as ZOOM meetups.

See all- 37th Annual Nansemond Indian PowwowNansemond Indian Nation, suffolk, VA
Background: In 1988, the Nansemond Tribe held its first pow wow on ancestral land. It was called the “Nansemond Indian Homecoming” in celebration of the tribe's return to the Nansemond River after centuries of colonial displacement. Each year, in mid-August, they hold a “Nansemond Indian Homecoming” to welcome Nansemond descendants, family, and friends to their ancestral home. Though they hold their pow wow within the state of Virginia, state borders came long after the tribe. Their history and relationships have no borders.
This free, family-friendly, two-day event features Native American dancing, singing, arts, and crafts. Additionally, there are educational exhibits, displays, and food. Plus, parking is free, too.
This is an excellent photo opportunity. However, pay attention to the announcements as certain aspects of the ceremony are considered sacred and photography and videography are prohibited during these periods.
