What we're about

This Meetup group will give us a chance to meet and hike with our fellow hikers from Nashville and Chattanooga as we will do a lot of hiking in the Cumberland Plateau and Cumberland Mountains which are between Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga. Most of these hikes will be long day trips but are very awarding hikes.

We will also do hikes in the Smoky Mountains as well as longer hikes that involve overnights. These hikes are from anywhere from from Red River gorge to the Rocky Mountains or anywhere there are good hikes that the group would like to hike.

We will try to plan to go to different National Parks across the country on hiking trips.

In addition to hiking we will be open to all kinds of outdoor activities from kayaking, biking, horseback riding, sitting around a fire, camping, caving, having a picnic, listening to live music outside, rock climbing or pretty much anything that is outdoors. We may also have some social activities as well such as dinners or other activities that will help us all get to know each other.

We are always looking for people who are will to host meetups and I am always willing to help you organize your first few meetup events so let me know if you would like to be an Event Organizer

PENSACOLA WEEKEND NOVEMBER 3 -7!

Fort Pickens Campground

This one of my favorite trips. We have done it many times.

So much to do. Sea kayak (Gulf or Bay or both), Roller blade, paddle board, road bike veg out on the beach or in camp and of course world class sea food in camp every night from, Joe Patties. Got a new toy? A great place to test it out.

Afternoon treat margaritas at Peg Leg Pete’s.

Added benefit for this weekend is the Blue Angle air show. Their last show for the season.

We usually do group cooking and share the cost. I’ll bring the kitchen!!

We have already booked Sites D5 and D7. If your interested book a site early (D6,8,9,10,11), it’s a busy weekend. You can get 2 tent's per site and up to 8 people. Not sure of how many sites to get! Never know how many derelicts will show up. At least four, D6 & 8 suggested. Check in November 3 – check out November 7.

AT Hike; Max Patch to Hot Springs

Hot Springs

Let's hike down to Hot Springs from Max Patch on the AT.
This is a 21+ mile tract.

This will be a shuttle hike. I plan to us a shuttle company, that morning, so we don't have to go back up to Max Patch to retrieve vehicles. The cost should be around $20-$35 per person.
If some of you want to do your own shuttle up to Max Patch and back to get your vehicles, lets talk about that option.

This is a longer hike, so know your abilities before signing up.

We will try to arrive early at Max Patch to see the sunrise. Then start our adventure down the trail. There will be lots to see and some amazing views on this hike. Hopefully some fall colors will be holding on for us to enjoy.

I will be staying in Hot Springs this weekend.

*I'm setting a low limit but may increase it if we can work out the logistics. I will need the number to setup the shuttles.

**There will at some point and time be a backpacking trip setup for this trace with our group. If you are interest in that trip watch for it to be posted. This post and trip is a day hike only.

Hensley Settlement- Sand Cave- White Rock

Sand Cave Road

This is a 12.5 mile hike.
Hopefully we will still have some Fall Colors to enjoy.

This hike is a great one. We will hike up to visit the Hensley Settlement in the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. After exploring and checking out the cabins, school, graveyard, and Blacksmith shop we will go back to the Ridge Trail and take it over to see the Sand Cave. Sand Cave is huge! You won't believe the sheer size of it. Then your jaw will drop at all of the sand. A truly amazing place to see. But we are not through, on over to the White Rock Overlook we will go to take in the spectacular views of the valley below. Once we are done with all of the picture taking, we will start heading down to where we left some of our vehicles and the end of a great day on the trail.

**After the hike, we can meet back up in Harrogate to have some delicious food from the Haymaker Farms Restaurant, 915 Patterson Rd, Harrogate, TN 37752
