[06:30 - 7:00 PM] Introducing Kubevirt (John Griffin, RedHat)

ABSTRACT: This talk will introduce the how, what and why of the Kubevirt project. Kubevirt is an Open Source Project aimed at enabling deployers to stop maintaining two sets of infrastructure (legacy VM Cloud and Kubernetes Cluster) and migrate their VM's easily to Kubernetes using all of the standard K8's goodness!

Not only will we talk about what Kubevirt does and the problems it solves will contrast some of the other approaches to similar problems that are out there currently. Finally we'll try and run through a quick demo on how you can use a K8's manifest to deploy a VM!

This should be a laid back interactive talk, so hopefully we'll see you there and we can chat!

BIO: John Griffith, now at RedHat is primarily focused on development and community efforts around Kubernetes and the Kubevirt project. John has spent the last several years working on various Open Source "Cloud" projects, including the creation of the OpenStack Block Storage Project.

In addition, he has been responsible for various SolidFire Storage integrations and customer engagements with Docker, Swarm and Kubernetes.

John is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado where he teaches a Graduate Class on "Cloud Technologies".

[07:00 - 07:30 PM] Debugging distributed applications with Azure Dev Spaces and AKS (Gabe Monroy, Microsoft)

Imagine you are a new employee trying to fix a bug in a complex microservices application consisting of dozens of components, each with their own configuration and backing services. To get started, you must configure your local development environment so that it can mimic production including setting up your IDE, building tool chain, containerized service dependencies, a local Kubernetes environment, mocks for backing services, and more. With all the time involved setting up your development environment, fixing that first bug could take days. Or you could use Dev Spaces and AKS.

BIO: Gabe Monroy is the Lead PM for Containers on Microsoft Azure and represents Microsoft on the governing board of the Cloud Native Computing foundation. Gabe was the founder and CTO of Deis, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2017. As an early contributor to Docker and Kubernetes, Gabe has deep experience with containers in production and frequently advises organizations on PaaS, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.

[07:45 - 08:15 PM] Knative, the new Kubernetes-based platform to build, deploy, and manage modern serverless workloads (Craig Box, Google)

BIO: Craig Box is a Kubernetes advocate at Google Cloud. He has worked with customers and communities since the launch of Kubernetes in 2014, and has delivered talks on 6 continents, including a KubeCon keynote. He is the co-host of the Kubernetes Podcast from Google.

Craig started his career in systems administration, and has over 15 years of experience in development, deployment, DevOps, consulting, advisory and management roles around the world.
