No Rush Sunday Night Hike
Come join us for a no rush casual hike! The Griffith Park hikes start in the Merry Go Round parking lot (otherwise known as lot #2) off Crystal Springs drive. Hikes run about 2-2.5 hours and are about 4-5 miles long. We walk at a casual pace but it will be at times a good work out. We go up and down some steep hills but always stay on the trail. Bring walking shoes and water. Dogs on leash welcome. Note: This is not a "flat" hike and there will be some hills involved! From the 134 westbound get off at Zoo Dr (street will curve around back under freeway), follow it until you are literally facing the zoo parking lot at the stop sign..turn left ..zoo will be on your right as you head south past the Autry museum. Continue past golf course. You will come to a four way stop with ranger station on left and a Merry Go Round sign. Turn RIGHT and proceed to end of street. You will have to make a right here. Go thru this first lot. This is lot #1. Keep going thru lot and over a small hill on road until you come to lot #2. You will see some people parked and standing around. We meet on the south end. Alternatively, you can get off at Forest Lawn Dr from the 134 (head south) and turn left at Travel Town, making your way (south) around the zoo and south onto Crystal Springs. If you are coming from Los Feliz Blvd, turn north on Crystal Springs Dr. past pony rides, along road until you get to the stop sign with Ranger station on the right and Merry Go Round sign. Turn LEFT here til the end of the road. Make a right, this is lot #1. Continue thru this lot and over a small hill until you get to lot #2. You will probably see some people parked and out of their cars already. If you get lost, please text me at[masked]. Allow some extra time if this is your first time finding this lot! There are restrooms a short walk down the hill when you park on the south end of lot #2, located right across from the Merry Go Round.

What we're about

Greetings! This is a hiking group dedicated to hiking at a casual, relaxed pace. Most of the hikes will take place on Sunday evenings in Griffith Park. Sometimes hikes will be announced in nearby areas, like Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. We will also have a few picnic hikes. This group is great for getting a good work out up and down hills, but without feeling rushed or regimented. No one will feel like a slowpoke or be left behind! It's all about casual, relaxed exercise..but you WILL get a workout!

Recommended: A good pair of walking shoes and a bottle of water. A walking stick is a big help and are pretty inexpensive at sporting goods stores. We will be hiking in the dark part of the time, so bring a flashlight. Dogs are welcome on a leash (park rules)!

Obligatory disclaimer: I am not a professional hike leader-you are responsible for yourself. By signing up for these hikes, you agree not to hold the Meetup organizers of LA Casual Hiking responsible for whatever happens to you on these events. LA Casual Hikers does not certify the expertise of the organizers, the event or assistant organizers (hike leaders). LA Casual Hiking is not responsible for any possible losses or injuries.

It's sometimes hard to know if the hike is at your level until you try it out. If you find you need to turn back at any time during a hike, please let someone know, and be sure you know the way back to the parking lot from where we are.

It is safe to bring your dog along in a hiking group-coyotes don't go near groups of people.

Most hikes are about 2-2.5 hours long and will cover 4-5 miles. We will be going up and down hills, some a little steep, also some steps depending on the hike, and walking in the dark at times. We stop periodically to allow everyone to catch up. So it will be a good steady cardio workout but not rushed.

PS During the fall and winter, bring a flashlight if you wish, part of the hike is in the dark..just not a super eye-piercingly bright one! And please use headphones if you bring an ipod.

Exercise! Friends! Views! Fun!
