Sunset Series/Full Moon Hike to the Summit of Great Blue Hill!

Come join L.L. Bean Mansfield on Sunday November 17th for our sunset hike up Great Blue Hill in the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA. This evening will also see the rising of the November full moon. We’ll plan on meeting in the large public parking lot located at 1904 Canton Ave (RT 138), Milton, MA just past the Blue Hills Ski Area and adjacent to the Blue Hills Trailside Museum. On this evening outing we’ll be hiking the red dot trail to the summit of Great Blue Hill. We’ll want to be on the summit just before the sun sets at 4:23PM so please arrive before 3:30PM so we can get started on time. Once on the summit we’ll rest at a wonderful overlook that faces west and enjoy the spectacular sunset. Please consider bringing snacks and your favorite non-alcohol beverage to enjoy. After the sun slips below the horizon we’ll head over to Eliot Tower to view the Boston skyline as it comes alive with the lights of the city at night. The full Beaver Moon will rise at 4:38PM this evening while we’re on the summit. If conditions are excellent and we time it right we should see the moon rising out of the Atlantic Ocean from Eliot Tower. Please bring binoculars if you have them to expand your viewing possibilities and a flashlight or headlamp for use after the sun sets. After completing the Eliot Circle we’ll descend back to our vehicles. This hike should run the full 2 hours or more depending how long we linger on the summit and cover about between 2 and 3 miles in distance.
The minimum age for attending is 8 (Children 8-15 yrs must have a participating adult with them, 16-17 yrs must have a parent/guardian sign participant agreement but do not need to attend).
Please dress appropriately for weather conditions.
Dressing in layers works best.
Wear appropriate footwear for hiking.
Please bring water, snacks and any personal medicines and gear you may need as well. These outings are free but you are responsible to have everything you need.
A camera and/or binoculars are always a welcome addition.
Previous outings have indicated that insect repellent is a must.
Leashed, people friendly, well socialized outdoor dogs are welcome at this venue.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before hand because we want to get started on time.
