Details

Join our free and awesome four-week Intro to Java class for total beginners by signing up here: https://goo.gl/ek7A5u

By the end of this four-session class, you'll have a thorough understanding of the very basics of programming, including variables, data types, loops, and conditional statements.

In each class, a code demo and lecture will be given and then we will break up into pairs or small groups for more hands-on practice.

Who this class is for:

This class is for total beginners in computer programming but basic computer proficiency is required (file systems, keyboarding, emailing, the internet, etc.)

If, and only if, you can commit the next 4 Sundays in a row from 1pm to 3:30pm, please sign up by clicking HERE (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVa21lmzxuCS6rYyykzxo2B63gwQ1y_UFEs5KUAZDan0i1mQ/viewform). We will take the first 10 signups and we will contact you with more information.

How to prepare:

Please have the following materials before class:

• A laptop is required.

• Download a text editor - notepad++ (https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.html) (Windows only), jEdit (http://www.jedit.org/) (for Mac & Windows), gEdit (https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Gedit) (Mac, Windows, Linux)

• Download java - get the JDK for your OS here (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html).

IndieDesk (http://www.indiedesk.com/) has graciously volunteered to host us, so please be respectful of the space.

How to find us:

You will need to enter from the courtyard side of the Wells Fargo building, then check in with security in the lobby, and take the elevator to the 4th floor.

This pin on Google Map shows the building entrance: https://goo.gl/maps/LBpMHdacRpH2

Parking:

• IndieDesk will validate your parking for $10 if you park at 333 S. Grand Ave, the Wells Fargo building (entrance on Hope St)

• There is also cheaper parking available a short walk away: one option is PacMutual, 523 W 6th St, entrances on both Grand Ave. and Olive St.

• There is some street parking in the area too! If you plan to do street parking, arrive early to give yourself extra time to circle around and find a spot. See this parking map: https://www.parkme.com/map?lat=34.0530041&lng=-118.251761&filter=street

Indie Desk is also really close to public transportation Metro stops, so we highly recommend taking the Metro!
