What we’re about
We're a grassroots community that empowers both aspiring and experienced tech professionals from underrepresented groups to learn and teach together. We're building a more diverse, tight-knit tech community across Los Angeles (and online), one neighborhood at a time!

Stuff we do at Learn Teach Code:
• Learn programming fundamentals through a variety of languages and platforms together in small groups or pair programming both in person and online.
• Workshops -- build something tangible and learn new skills in our structured group classes!
• Co-working and casual learning -- work on your own projects independently while enjoying the company of like-minded people.
• Discussion groups, especially for language-agnostic topics. (Maybe even a book club?)
• Project show-and-tell -- get feedback, generate ideas, or just show off your mad skillz!
• And other random, fun activities like geeky movie nights and joint events with other meetups!
Join us for small group discussions with our volunteer mentors from across the tech industry, who are here to answer your tech career questions! Total beginners are especially welcome. :)
I'm thinking of making this more like a quarterly event (instead of monthly like it mostly used to be), so let me know what you think about the slower schedule!
NOTE: This means that this October event might be the last one of the year, and we'll start again early 2025.
Agenda:
See list of mentors and topics here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1i7CbFixE5gneL4mg3Ra6ohqL1FeD8B2ruw8xBJfcVdc/
- 6pm: Mentors will introduce themselves; community announcements.
- 6:15pm: Talk with mentors in small groups (feel free to hop between breakout rooms)
- 7:30pm: Wrap up
Sign up here to volunteer for our next event:
https://forms.gle/6JXY7GY4onnhi2zT7
We need volunteers for the following roles:
- Mentors to lead informal discussion groups and share their experiences in tech (all roles, backgrounds and experience levels welcome!)
- "Backup" mentors to help out in conversations without leading a discussion group just yet
Before you join the event:
- A free Zoom account is required to join the event, so be sure to log into Zoom beforehand. (This reduces the chance of Zoom bombers.)
- Please make sure you have Zoom version 5.3.0 or higher and please join via the Zoom Desktop client to be able use the self-select breakout rooms feature.
- You'll get the most out of this event if you come prepared with questions to ask! (Anything from career advice, comparing programming languages, etc.)
Code of Conduct:
By participating in our event, all attendees and mentors agree to follow the Code of Conduct below. Thank you!

Please report any inappropriate behavior to one of our organizers via Zoom chat during the event if needed, or email liz@learnteachcode.com to report concerns at any time.
