Entre dos Mundos: Spanish-English Bilingual Book club - 8th. meeting

Details

Join us for our next meeting of our bilingual Spanish-English book club “Entre dos mundos” on Saturday, March 16 from 3 pm to 5 pm.

We will be commenting Mariana Enríquez's Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego, either in its original Spanish version or in its English version Things We Lost in the Fire translated by Megan McDowell. Or both!

This is the fun thing about this book club! It’s totally up to you: you can choose to read the book either in Spanish or in its English translation, or in both! During the meeting, we will have bilingual discussions on different aspects of the book, including topics that are interesting to translators, such as the linguistic, stylistic and cultural choices made in translation.

You can find descriptions and reviews about the book here https://elpais.com/cultura/2016/03/07/babelia/1457366111_091327.html and http://www.totallydublin.ie/more/print/book-review-things-lost-fire/.

You can get both versions from many of the local bookstores and libraries, like Books Inc., Green Apple, City Lights, apart from Amazon. Always check around your neighborhood before ordering in Amazon if you like supporting local, independent businesses.

For more information on this Bookclub's original idea and the previous books discussed in New York City, where it originally initiated and still runs as well, you can visit: https://clubdelecturanyc.wordpress.com/.

Happy bilingual reading and see you soon!
