Each chapter has a theme—like Patience, Abundance, Courage or Trust—that is at the heart of joyful and effective living. Chapters follow a pattern that essentially starts with a paragraph giving the author’s definition, a paragraph or two with an engaging anecdote putting flesh and blood on the idea, and a paragraph tying it all into a neat, easy-to-grasp package.

At the end of each chapter is a description of how Shine, the author’s Australian Cattle Dog, friend, and muse, demonstrates the concept and an Action Step for making the concept a living part of daily life.

After three car accidents and a severe job injury, my racquetball career was over and my body was plagued by injuries. The next thing I knew, my physician diagnosed me with Lupus, Fibromyagia and Arthritis, which I managed with prescription drugs. However, they weren’t enough; so I sought various alternative ways of healing myself. During this time, a massage therapist asked me if I had ever heard about Reiki. Although I had never heard of this treatment, I was open to the idea. My first Reiki experience was transformative. It led me to begin learning about positive energy and the law of attraction. I became a certified Reiki Master/Teacher, certified Spiritual Counselor and certified Tai Chi Instructor.
