Irish indie folk star on the rise Lisa Hannigan will be joined on stage by my favorite singer songwriter of the last decade Joe Henry. Hannigan released her sophomore album Passengerlast year which was produced by the man who will share the stage at 6th and I Historic Synagogue with her. Hannigan is also know for playing with Irish folk rock artist Damien Rice.
Joe Henry in addition to being a wonderful singer with ahaunting tenor voice has become a much sought after record producer. Joe has three Grammy wins and three other nomination for producing other peoples records in the genres of blues, country, folk, jazz, rock, R&B, and soul. And it is no surprise that Hernry's thirteen solo works are somewhat hard to define as he touches on many or these musical forms. Joe's production credits include records by Aimee Mann, Ani DeFranco, Susan Tedeschi, Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Rodney Crowell, Aaron Neville, Mose Alison, and the late Solomon Burke for which he one his first Grammy in 2002 for Don't Give Up on Me.
Henry most recently producedBonnie Raitt's Slipstream in which four songs recorded at the Henry's Garfield House Studio in South Pasadena made the record. The historic home was once the home of U.S. President James Garfield's widow, Lucretia, who died there in 1918. Henry bought the home in 2006 and put in a recording studio. Three of Henry's own records have been made in the house, along with countless other recordings.
Joe Henry wrote the following on his web page about the tour with Lisa Hannigan.
now it can be told…
throughout much of june, i will be touring in collaboration with my friend and sister, the great lisa hannigan of ireland. we will be joined by her brilliant and soulful drummer, ross turner, and the heroic singer-songwriter-guitarist john smith of england.
as much as possible, we all expect to be on stage for the duration of the evening, with our hearts and minds aimed at discovery…adding to each other’s songs as we can, airing new ones as they appear, and covering a few old favorites when they offer illumination.
i for one am looking forward to this with great anticipation. there is no one working whom i admire more so than lisa –and no new musical friendships that offer more than do mine with ross and john.
i hope we may see some of you along the way.
